MEB for having Heart Attack?

Hello all,

New to this site and forum. I experienced a heart attack in Aug 14. Had over 90% blockage and end up having to have two stents implanted to clear/open left ventricles. My PCM said that I need to be put in for an MEB which is required per AFI. I'm active duty guard (AGR), 22yrs (all full-time between 16yrs regular active and 6yrs AGR). Was just wondering if anyone has or is experiencing the same situation and what their timeline has been like or what challenges you have met? Also wondering if I will actually be medically retired since I"m an E-7 and I have over 22yrs? I have other medical issues such as chronic back issues from deployment injury while deployed to Baghdad, Iraq for a year, (I received spinal shots for years), Migraines TMJ, PTSD, etc. So far my experience/timeline is as follows:

Aug 14: Heart Attack/Surgery
Sep 14: PCM submits initial IRILO for DAWG review/approval
Oct 14: Apparent approval from DAWG for MEB/Code 37
Nov 14: PEBLO submitts request for CC Letter, NARSUM, etc.
Dec 14: Commander's Letter complete
Jan 15: Mental Health evaluation of MEB package submitted to PEBLO

Any insight/advice would be appreciated.

Hi I'm Airguard Technician , your time line is close to mine so thought this might help.
Nov 2, 2014 - MEB, Commanders Impact statement finished, MEB/DAWG
Dec 15, 2014 -Pkg forwarded to NGB/SG
Jan 15, 2015 - Got an email message from the clinic (my peblo I guess) that NGB has forwarded the package to A-1 to forward to the IPEB.
Feb 2, 2015 - still waiting for a response from FSS that determination has returned...
Have heard that if NGB forwards it without returning it to the unit with an ALC code that they agree with the "unfit" recommendation...now waiting on IPEB to decide....

Hello Connick,

Thanks for your post. I'm hoping to get some news back from NGB or A1 that they will do a full MEB. This process is not the easiest to understand, especially when you have to add in the "Guard" factor. I found out we don't even get put into the IDES/DES system until the package has gone to Randolph, TX.

Are they going to put you thru an MEB or PEB? That is usually done before they send it to NGB. Anything rated service connected? Even though my leg is service connected they are just putting me through the IPEB and are skipping a formal MEB. (which I know is not the correct procedure but at this point I don't want to slow things down) Maybe because it was all cut and dried and they did not need anything else? So an MEB might not happen and they will go with the information they have and either forward it to A-1, who then forwards it to IPEB. Or NGB will send it back with an ALC code. The Guard factor definitely complicates things and the rules seem to apply differently. If they forward it to AFPC you still have to wait for a fit/unfit determination or they might send it back at that time for more information.
Jan 15, 2015- NGB sent package to A-1 to forward to AFPC/IPEB
Feb 9, 2015 - still waiting to hear anything. Not showing anything in MilPers...nada. FSS doesn't seem to be worried about the time yet, and wants to wait until Feb 17, 2015 to call NGB to see if a determination back has been sent from AFPC to NGB. They then contact your FSS. From what I understand after doing some research, is that FSS calls you, you have been considered unfit and they start the separation/retirement orders. If the Peblo/Clinic calls you back they got a RTD (return to duty code)...Just seems that everyone else knew a little quicker about the unfit determination...then again they did not have the Guard factor....
