Good morning to all brothers and sisters service members, this PacMule84 (a new member). I have 29 yrs and 7 months total military service (half active - half reservist). I am trying to retire but I have some questions in reference to applying for a military medical reitrement. First, what would be the first step I need to complete in order to get a medical retirement initiated? Second, I have multiple non-combat injuries all from serving on active duty. I would like to claim these injuries with my request for military medical retirement, can this be processed. Is this a wise idea? I have already been grant a rating from the VA but I would like for these injures to be classified under my military retirement. If any brother or sister service member can provide me with any insight or advice, I would really appreciate the information. Semper Fi!

PacMule84, this is Postman56. I think it is a very wise Idea to go through an MEB before seperation. I was rated by the VA before I was refered to the MEB process. My rating did not change from what I had with the VA, DOD retired me at 60%. I am sure others will chime in and give you directions on how to initiate an MEB.

I would definetly claim everything with the VA. Especially if you can find a good VA rep. really all they can do is say no then appeal it it can't hurt and the way I look at everything is you have given so many years of your life all the sacrifices the government needs to take care off their own, not people who have multiple kids and collect 600 a month just in food. There are not to many people that understand the sacrifices we make the starin it puts on us and our families and leaders in Washington need to recognize this and support the people that will give their life for everybody freedom. Just my opinion though but good luck if you need help let me know. I have spent the last few years of my career trying to get people VA benefits and using connections I have made over the years.
