Multiple DBQs For The Same Issue?

Hello,

Just curious if anyone knows how the VA will process a claim if there is more than 1 DBQ for a given issue, and both DBQs are recent?

Went through a MEDBOARD, did all of the C&P exams, but never received a rating because the MEDBOARD had me stay in to retire normally. Claim was closed, but all of the DBQ's are in my VA file.

So now I've filed my own VA claim, as I'm about to retire. Doing all of the C&P exams again, so each item I'm claiming will have two DBQs.

Wondering which DBQ the VA will use when deciding a percentage? Both? Whichever is most beneficial to me? Only the most recent one? The original ones are only a few months old...August of this year.

Thanks for any info!

Shaun

Anything IDES will be null and void if you don't end up discharging via IDES. I'd imagine that would mean your previous 526 along with any exams will be trashed, otherwise they wouldn't have requested new exams.

I was figuring the same thing, but the 1st exam I had with the new claim was for tinnitus, and the examiner told me she saw the original exam results from my MEDBOARD exam. That, and the MSC that was assigned to me during the MEDBOARD confirmed that all of my original exam results were in my VA file.

He also said that attending the new exams was optional, and if I didn’t want to attend them, I didn’t have to, with no negative impact on me (I don’t recall the document number, but in my new claim, I submitted an official VA document stating that I do not wish to be examined again, and to use the original DBQs that I completed during MEDBOARD).

It’s all a bit crazy to me. I’ll be attending all of the new exams regardless, so I’ll have 2 DBQ’s per issue. Again, just curious how the VA handles this sort of thing.

Generally speaking exams are good for a year, maybe someone goofed along the way in ordering you new ones, but it could also be that BDD claims also guarantee exams so the two programs are conflicting in that regard. I can't say I'm positive on how true this is, but that's how it would make sense to me.

Regardless I'm wishing you the best, hopefully you can hit that magical 50% for concurrent.
