Correct.Ask to do it virtually. If you are on terminal leave and already have your DD-214, then I would question why he wants you to come in. And I would ask even more questions if you are out of the local area and I would push back through my chain of command if possible. Legally, you are still active duty and they can request you come back but there are still special considerations.
Actually this is not exactly correct. According to the milpers 1050-120, terminal leave is as follows.Ask to do it virtually. I would literally say respectfully i am on authorized leave and will not be there.Actually this is not exactly correct. According to the milpers 1050-120, terminal leave is as follows.
d. When separation processing has been completed and the
member has departed on leave, such leave may be voluntarily
terminated only if the member returns to the command or the
separation activity maintaining the member’s records.
It was made very clear to me by my COC in conjunction with the milpers instruction that my terminal leave was not something that could be canceled by anyone except me except under extreme circumstances. This is to include a command sweep for urinalysis. If your CO is your final approver, I'd tell your Divo to get bent. Tell him you are house hunting or something. As far as the instruction states, that I understand it, they don't actually have the authority to bring you back in just to talk. I'd be happy to be proven wrong as always but that's not my understanding of the instruction.
We certainly don’t know the captain’s intentions.I like the advice to consult your legal resource. Perhaps the Captain is really just trying to conduct an exit interview - and could be done virtually - or even trying to present some recognition for your service. Either way, your meeting could turn into a productive exercise that could benefit others if you can provide some things that went well and not so well from your experience.
