My Timeline so far...

He wants me to stay until a replacement arrives (May-June) but I have a job lined up and don't want to. There was also a discussion to deny my PTAD for retirement request in order to keep me on longer. His plan right now is to write an endorsement that says he recommends me extending to July 31st (vice April 30th).
I hope you are able to leave as you have planned.

As you know, TERA is not a right; it is an exception to policy.

"Retirement with at least 20 years of service continues to be the standard retirement entitlement for those who complete a career in the Military Services. Early retirement serves as an additional force management tool to meet the needs of the Marine Corps and approval of TERA requests remains an exception to policy governing the regular retirement of service members."

"Marines being considered for disability separation or retirement must complete the PEB process with a finding of “unfit”, have more than 15 but less than 20 years active service, and be willing to waive the PEB findings in order to apply for TERA. Marines approved for early retirement in these cases must have a retirement date that occurs within the timeframe that a disability separation or retirement is expected to occur. "

Perhaps the last sentence shown above might support your goal. LINK to info <----

Good luck,

SO here's another update to my situation. I have been back and forth with my I-I trying to get my TERA in April instead of August. I was able to get endorsements but the I-I added a line saying anything before August would be a detriment to the unit. For reference, there would be a 3-4 month gap in my billet. There was a 6 month gap in between I-Is and a 10 month gap for our Ops Chief. A retirement date posted on my BIR of August. I called HQMC and pointed out the date discrepancy. They changed it back to 30 April. Right now we are waiting to see what the final approved date is. I am told everyday by my command that I can forget about starting terminal in February. I normally wouldn't mind staying in longer but I have a job (which could be described as a dream job) waiting for me but only if I can start in March. I've also been told that, if my EAS isn't August, they will deny the 20 days of PTAD - I figure I can sell back less leave to make up for it though.

So I'm still around. My EAS was changed to 29 Apr 20 but I applied for TERA. Once that went through, my EAS reverted back to my original date. I asked for 30 Apr 20 on the TERA requested but that means I would have to start terminal leave (no retirement PTAD) on 10 Mar 20. We'll see.

Why arent they granting you retirement PTAD but allowing you to take terminal leave?

I apologize for the delay. I was told it was because of time and that my replacement has not arrived yet. I'm not too upset about the PTAD as I can ensure that some key items are properly taken care of.
