I have been lurking on these boards for many months and decided to finally post my situation and timeline. I was referred to PEB due to Lymphocytic Colitis, fatigue, and weight loss that is not being controlled by medication. The medicine I am currently on for it is Imuran (150mg/day) and Humira (40mg/2 weeks). I am a Nuke ET currently on recruiting duty.

My timeline
Hospitalized 3 times for over 30 total days in the summer of 2014
Diagnosed with Lymphocytic Colitis early October 2014
October 15, 2014 - 1st LIMDU and PRT waiver (all but weigh in)
March 15, 2015 - 2nd PRT waiver which triggered PEB
April 2, 2015 - Offical start date for IDES
April 7, 2015 - Met with MSC at VA Jackson, MS
May 6, 2015 - Completed C&P exams (3 referred for PEB and 18 total for VA)
June 2, 2015 - C&P writeups complete and sent to NAS Meridian
June 25, 2015 - Met with Dr. at Meridian because the nurse practioner I worked with before could no longer write the NARSUM
August 7, 2015 - MEB completed with recommendation to refer to PEB and I reviewed my NARSUM. There were some small errors which the Dr. said she would fix without a rebuttal
August 28, 2015 - NARSUM fixed and approved, package mailed to PEB
September 15, 2015 - PEB started to review my file and contacted the PEBLO to see if my package was supposed to be more than 82 pages. They lost 936 pages. Luckily I had my own copy. Went to Merdian, they copied what I had and resent it to PEB
September 18, 2015 - PEB received the missing pages.

Now I am just sitting here waiting and hoping that I hear something soon. I have started looking for a job but can't do much because of not knowing when my discharge will be. Really starting to stress out. I hope this information can help anyone else going through this process right now.

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

I just spoke with my PEBLO and she says that the system indicates that a decision from the IPEB has been made but does not indicate what that is. E-benfits still says "reviewing evidence." I am starting to get worried because my NEC proficiency waiver expires on the 15th of this month.

You already received a decision from the PEB? My case was sent off in July and I still don't know if I'm fit or unfit. E-benefits has been saying "gathering of evidence" since May.

I think I have a decision. She says that she only sees what the report sent to her from Pensacola shows and she only get that every 7-10 days. My e-benefits still says "gathering evidence." I have seen timelines on here that have an answer in 1-2 weeks.

Another concern I have is my NEC proficiency waiver expires on the 15th. I have no idea what will happen if I dont' have an answer by then. Will my loss of NEC at that point be considered due to medical or due to loss of proficiency? Could make the difference in paying back around $50k.

I'm assuming this is a reenlistment bonus you are worried about paying back. A good place to look at is DoD 7000.14-R Volume 7A, Chapter 2. Refer to table 2-1. The chart is what is typically used to determine if a bonus is recouped. I'm a nuke MM and they changed my NEC to 3359 a long time ago and I never had to pay anything back on my bonus.

Thanks. I have looked at those and I know for sure I won't have to pay it back once I am found unfit. I was just worried about losing the NEC before being found unfit. I should still be good but still slightly worried. Also, what happens if I lose the NEC and then a fit finding comes back afterward? 95% is should be UNFIT but who knows with these boards.

Depends on whether or not you can be a nuke again or not. From my understanding, if you get rerated you have to pay back the bonus minus the time you served as a nuke for your current contract. One of my coworkers is currently paying back his bonus because he was found fit. One thing at a time though. Just wait until you get a decision from the PEB.

That stinks that you would have to pay back the bonus if you can't be a nuke through no fault of your own but can stay in the Navy.

You'll notice that there are completely different answers to your question. They are likely both correct.

It will depend on the exact nature of the reclass. An involuntary reclass due to loss of medical qualification is outside your control and the bonus should not be repaid. You are correct, that would stink and be entirely unfair. However, when they process you for the invol reclass they will also see if they can offer you a voluntary reclass if one is available. A voluntary reclass means you pick the new job you are going into, they find a school seat and validate that yes, you are going into that new job. Involuntary you submit the top 3-5 jobs you want, but in the end, they give you the job they want you to be in and it almost never matches your top choices. For many that will cause them to want the voluntary option, and they will not emphasis the fact that the voluntary option comes with repaying the bonus.

They will not look into the reclass until found fit. You cannot reclass unless you are medically qualified for the new job, and since you are in the MEB process, you are not qualified for any jobs. Not until there is a fit finding.

Thanks for the information scout.
Went into e-benefits today and the estimated completion date changed from 9/29/2015 to "At this time, your Regional Office is unable to provide an estimated completion date for this type of claim." It also stills says Review of Evidence. This is getting really frustrating because I found a great job that would want me to start December 15th. So I am really hoping to get an answer soon and a discharge date of December 31st (I have 51 days of leave and 20 more days between job and house hunting).

Just a heads up, there are a ton of people saying the same thing...myself included...I started a thread about it and I know a couple of Marines in my own unit that got the same message over the weekend since ebenefits went "under maintenance" ....hopefully it'll get fixed. Please keep us all updated on your case if you hear anything.

Add one more to the list:

  • Estimated Completion: At this time, your Regional Office is unable to provide an estimated completion date for this type of claim.

I just spoke with my MSC at the VA (first time to actually reach her after a month of trying). She said that the VA rating is done they are just waiting on the PEB to make their decision. According to her once they tell the VA unfit they will send back the ratings. PEB has now had my package for over 7 weeks.

My package was signed and sent to PEB August 7th, 2015 and I haven't heard a thing. Every 30 days or so I go check in with my PEBLO, but it's always the same "You haven't heard anything, because we haven't heard anything." I think my PEBLO just gets irritated when I ask about it. It seems like the best thing to do is just go on business as usual until they contact you. I wish they would give us some way to see the status of our PEB ourselves. I've read about the IDES dashboard, but I'm pretty sure it's just for Army.

As far as I know, this information is incorrect and they are trying to get you to lay off asking questions. They don't even start looking at it for ratings until they determine if you are fit/unfit.

How did you find out the VA had already rated you? What number did you call? The PEB has had my package since July and haven't found me fit or unfit yet.
