Myself and Family lost Tricare Eligibility

I haven't been on this forum since I was medically retired in 2019. I'm one of those that seek help and then offer none in return after retiring, but I'm at a loss.

The fast and dirty:
In march of this year I went from 80% to 100% and was put on the permanent list. Awesome, only took 5 years. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and my wife is getting her annual checkup and the front desk lets her know that her Tricare is no longer good. Weird.

She can't do anything while there, so I call Tricare. They tell me that in late November of last year I/family lost eligibility. Weird again. I ask why and the operator tells me that my retirement was deleted out of DEERs and that I need to get them to reupload them.

Drive the three hour round trip to my 'local' ID card office. Re-upload my separation/retirement orders from 2019. Wait a couple days. Call DEERs back and they tell me that there is my 100% DAV and my retirement in their system. They tell me that I have to sign up for CHAMP VA because I'm 100%. Well, I don't want to, I want tricare as I don't want to have to change any of my wife/kids doctors. I'm eligible to keep our tricare, as far as their website criteria, and was told when being medically retired for combat injuries that I would get tricare for life.

DEERs is now telling me to drive back to my ID card office and have them delete whatever documents the VA uploaded.

Please tell me someone knows what the fuck to do about this. I've called HQDA retirement services and they are just as lost and just keep giving me other people to call that can't help for shit.

My family is without health insurance and my wife missed her signup date for her works insurance.

I've already been hit with a 600$ bill for that annual checkup. I'm super fucking scared that one of my kids is going to break an arm and require surgery and I'm out 10's of thousands.

How can the VA keep fucking you, you ask?

Had something similar where my wife's orders dropped off for no reason in DEERS and Tricare recouped everything paid out to providers. Its a terrible game where you get bounced around. We requested a congressional inquiry and the Veterans rep for our local senator actually got to the bottom of it and everything was fixed. It took about 3 months though. You may want to look into doing that if you aren't getting anywhere.

Also, if you have tricare you are not required to apply for ChampVA. You can choose tricare. In fact, I don't believe you are eligible for ChampVA if you are Tricare eligible. Its one of the disqualifiers. One more reason why i hate TDRL. My guess is your paperwork got messed up when they changed you from TDRL to PDRL.

Provis,
I finally got a hold of someone at DEERs who could articulate the issue to me. I assume that you are correct in that they messed it up when I went from TDRL to PDRL.
She said that my status went from TDRL to Disabled Veteran. It didn't go to PDRL. Hence why I lost my eligibility.
Said it's an easy fix for my local DEERs office. Hopefully they actually pick up the phone this week.
Thanks again!

Yep. All they need to do is upload your PDRL orders and it should be fixed and backdated so that there is no gap in insurance.
