Navy Admin Board for BCA and LIMDU

Recently failed third BCA and should have had a waiver. Command politics met with terrible timing on my part. Referred for administrative separation and have a board coming up. In the meantime, I was finally referred off the ship for medical care and due to Asthma I was placed immediately on my first LIMDU period. Due to broken service, I will not get to 20 years until 2016 and am just under 18. I do not understand what to expect. Command just wanted to get rid of me and it appears that I have helped them to do it. My health is on the decline and I am really worried about medical bills, specifically treatment for the Asthma as there is no way I can afford the medicines or medical care on my own. I do not expect for the administrative board to go well. Any advice?

I would fight both the ADSEP action and try to push to get MEB and PEB. You may not be able to prevail in the short term, but if you do, then great. If not, your actions may well help in later appeals (likely to BCNR).

To the extent you can, I would try to get as much documentation about your condition as possible. If it has impacted your duty performance, you would also want to try to get that documented (letters or memorandums from supervisors or co-workers will be helpful).

You may want to initiate a VA claim as soon as possible. If you are not able to get into the IDES system, the soon in time VA exams and ratings will likely help you later on in appeals.

I am happy to report that the Admin Board is over and there was no basis for seperation and a vote for my retention. I wish that I could say this is over but I don't think that it is. The command plans to initiate another board at the end of April if I fail the BCA again. With all the steroids that I have been on and all the weight that I have gained, I don't think I can pass it. I have been trying to push myself during workouts but the Asthma kicks in. My PEB is moving forward and the issues are Asthma and Vocal Cord Dysfunction. I completed all my VA physicals last week. I am so stressed out about all of this. No one seems to have ever heard of the VCD but essentially when I am suffering anxiety and stress, my vocal cords slam shut. It is a miserable and scary condition. Can somebody tell me what happens now?

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Indeed, it's truly pleasing to read that your Navy Admin Board for BCA resulted in a no separation decision! :D

Moreover, good deal with the forward progression of your DoVA examinations! Hmm, were you finally referred and accepted into DoD IDES MEB/PEB process at this point in time?

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

I am in the IDES process and just recieved the report back from my exams. I don't really know what to make of them. I was told that my package would have an informal board review by the end of the week to determine if it would be forwarded to the VA for ratings. Does that sound about right?

Indeed yes, and good deal! :)

It seems that your DoD IDES case file was forwarded to the PEB for an "unfit for duty" determination on all medical conditions as annotated on the MEB NARSUM documentation.

As such, please reference the below PEB Forum URL for a detailed explanation about the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process in order to aide with building your new DoD IDES knowledgebase:

My Peblo informs me that I was found Unfit and my case forwarded to the VA for rating decision. I also received a waiver for the upcoming PRT because of the extremely high doses of steroids required to treat my condition. Any idea how long the rating process will take? I really need to make plans. I have a family to help support and kids to put through school. How can I check the VA rating status? Can I just call them up or do I have to go through my Peblo.

Both..but at the stage you are at just put the 60+ days in your head from the day the VA received your unfit claim. To be realistic, just say 3 months before any "pertinent" movement takes place. it's all the same system and both the peblo and va rep see the same thing..but you can call va rep 3 times a day everyday and get different answers...I would not recommend calling peblo on a regular basis until the VA says we just released ratings to FPEB/Peblo. Just my 1.5 pesos.

Indeed, good deal with the "unfit for duty" determination if that was your expected desire.

In my opinion, you should work closely with your assigned PEBLO for any information pertaining to the DoD IDES process albeit some are better at their jobs than others unfortunately.

That said, you are potentially looking at a 60 to 90 day wait until receipt of the DA Form 199 or other military service equivalent IPEB documentation at this point. Natually, patience and being positively proactive are keys contributors while in the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process!

Nonetheless, please take care and continue to plan for your post-military endeavors for sure! :)
