I have served nearly 15 years on active duty with 3 combat deployments, I have been told by BH providers I need to complete intrepid to receive a look at MEB for PTSD/Depression disorder. The other thing is I have a chronic C-Spine issue that I have completed every Army treatment other than surgery which I'm scheduled off post in temple Texas for in the coming weeks. I have just crossed over 90 days till ETS and decided that its better for me to walk away than to put myself and my family through more struggles. I would still like to see if I could get a medical retirement of course but not sure it is even possible since I'm so near. I do know that I will need continued treatment for life for these conditions, anyone have any insight for a medical extension so I could possibly try and meet the MEB timeline and request with the medical provider to iniate a medical extension?

If you don't get referred to IDES before ETS then you will just ETS. It sounds like MEB is very possible for you. You would need to reup and then focus on your health. At that point you either get better and finish to retire at 20 or you don't and eventually get put into IDES which will result in medical separation or retirement depending on your unfit condition ratings.

@Provis gave you some good advice. Take your health seriously. Everyone leaves the servicE. Some in one hitch, some with 30+ YOS. BUT you must advocate for your well being.

Good afternoon and thank you for your speedy responses! I just got back from Poland so focusing on my health was a joke with little to no healthcare while over there. I've heard of a medical extension pushing your ETS to complete a MED Board if they pushed for it but needs to be filed 60 days before ETS. My next enlistment is Indeff and if possible, I would rather extend a few months to see this through rather than re-up and drop a retirement packet immediately. One provider recommended it but said I needed to get the PCM to approve and she just said with ETS we can't, I don't feel like it is being taken serious because I'm so close but what they don't understand is i will likely need additional care, this is also a reason I want to speak with patient advocacy. Any thoughts?

You are in limbo. You would need to be referred to IDES. You may not like the answer but it looks like the best way to get put in is to reup and then there is no clock. If you are put in IDES and found unfit they will kick you out one way or the other so its not much of a time commitment. If found unfit in IDES you will be medically separated with severance or medically retired. So the choice is yours. ETS and focus on your health now and after you get out or reup and focus on your health until they kick you out or you retire.

David,
I was in the same boat; struggling day-to-day and decided that ETS was for the best for me and my family. My doctor disagreed and put me in for a P3 for PTSD, and the whole MEB process started while I was on CSP. They extended my ETS date 6 months down the road (the paperwork went through like 15 days before my date).
Am I still struggling in the Army? Yes.
Will it be worth it? I'm betting on it. 15 years in service and E6.
You don't need to re-up for a medical extension, but you do need to get on the MEB process ASAP if your doctor is amicable.
