Need help with my timeline.

i have been following a lot of strikes here. Great site. I have a few questions.

How long do I have to wait till I get me fit/unfit memo? I have been waiting for close to 2 months.

Also I just wanted to say I am very greatful for this site. I have over 30 claimed items. I want to know if any of them could be added as an unfit rating part of the DOD. I will update as I am updated.

Welcome to the purgatory known as the IDES process. Your DA199/AF356 could return in 3 weeks or 3 months. It seems they don't have a standardized timeline, just a first-come first-serve review. Wish I could help you out more.

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Since the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process is a performance-based system, one important factor is the impact of the medical condition(s) upon your ability to perform duties appropriate to your rank and job skill.

To that extent, as based upon all available medical evidence and/or medical documentation, any of your medical conditions could potentially be deemed "medically unacceptable" in the MEB phase or "unfit for duty" in the PEB phase while in the DoD IDES process.

In retrospect, I had a total of 50 claimed medical conditions while in the MEB phase but wasn't able (via appeals and rebuttals except for my PTSD) to get any additional "medically unacceptable" determinations for those medical conditions I felt were indeed medically unacceptable for continued military service.

As such, during the PEB phase since I requested Formal PEB hearings, I had another opportunity to request an "unfit for duty" determination for those medical conditions which I believed severally affected my ability in the performance of assigned military duties. Unfortunately, the FPEB didn't agree with my affirmations for additional "unfit for duty" medical condition determinations at that particular point in time.

With that all said, my point of emphasis is that I exercised my legal right to DoD IDES appeal opportunities while in the MEB phase and PEB phase of the IDES process; sometimes you are success while other times you are not successful, but never default acceptance to any injustices!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

I went before the Formal Board to request 2 of my conditions be moved up towards my DoD disability rating. Both these items are defined as potential unfitting conditions. I was successful in getting 1 of the 2 moved towards my DoD disability rating. So it is possible. I explained how the conditions affected my duty performance and my medical records backed me up. The reason (per the board) that the other condition was not moved up was due to a lack of documentation in terms of a profile for the condition. I have since found additional documentation and am appealing to SAFPC for their determination.

Best of luck.

Thank you for all the information. still it has been 2 months since I signed and submitted my package to the IPEB. I have not heard anything. according to this new system this is not supposed to happen. I did everything as fast and efficiently on my end why cant I get the same back?

is there any one out there that has waited 2 months just to hear your unfit/fit decision?

your talking about my ratings. I haven't even heard if I'm unfit/fit yet.

While this may be unorthodox, I was alerted to the idea that you may contact the OAC (Office of the Airman's Counsel). The people that work there are very friendly, and they can see where the IPEB is currently at. They share the same system as the PEB (co-located) and gave me an update on my fit/unfit.

I'm talking about the whole process, unfortunately. I wish they told people they were fit/unfit so they could make preparations, but even still I am waiting for the PEB to even receive my ratings back from the VA. For some reason, the VA has vehemently defended its position that I should receive a notice in the mail within 10 days, and that the PEB will receive an electronic notification, but I had to stand on the shoulders of the lead case manager before he noticed that the VA hadn't yet, after nearly a week, sent forth the electronic submission to the PEB.

For what it's worth, it is a process that can only move forward. Stagnating and tying your life up in this convoluted process will only agitate things and make you more frustrated.

Hope you receive your fit/unfit status soon. I understand your frustration with the hurry up and wait process. As of today I have been in the IDES system for 513 days and counting.
