I am a nurse practitioner and refer trainees to medical boards all the time- That being said we DO THOROUGHLY, at least I do, examine them on every aspect. We compare their symptoms to their signs which I see while doing the physical exam. By our license, even if someone thinks you are faking, they HAVE to refer you or treat you in a plan of care based on your symptoms- whether that be physical therapy that later doesn't work and then you go down the path of medications- thus ending in an MEB depending on your prognosis obviously- some doctors I work with are afraid to order x-rays and MRIs immediately because of the budget costs and they want to make sure you have gone through less invasive treatments first, unless it is an acute injury- breaking an ankle etc. Having been doing this the last few years it is a slippery slope, but we HAVE to treat and refer appropriately. Honestly this person might be acting like he is faking to you, but have severe issues and open up differently to the providers. I had a basic trainee that had attempted suicide and had a plan- completely depressed- lots of family issues- long story short I sent him to mental health and had him seen by psyche for a full behavioral evaluation. His MTI kept saying he was "faking it" to get out of the system and spoke differently to him than when he broke down in my office. You NEVER really know what is going on in someone's head and what their home life is like. People adapt or do not adapt to stress differently. Suicide is not a joking matter no matter what- if anyone makes any homicidal threats it will be taken straight up the command, even if faking, but I have yet to really see someone that is truly faking their illness- typically they usually have SOMETHING going on or they would not be there in the first place. As most of us know, this whole MEB process is LONG and STRESSFUL, it stirs up every type of emotion- financial, personal, family, and self-worth. I know of several military members that have committed suicide based on simply being depressed from the MEB, not being able to take leave, losing their daily functional status, and so forth.

I agree that you need to let the providers and commanders handle it- they probably have more information that cannot be given to you- I know we cannot tell anything to anyone unless the commander needs to know based on job/duties/profiles/safety issues. This is why they claim that "pain is subjective to the patient," versus objective- a good doc will treat the pain even if he cannot "see" the problem- or at least get you to the right specialty.

Was that all one sentence? I think you may need a med board, inability to use proper grammar is a symptom of cognitive disorder....... as well as mania in manic depression especially if its effecting you that badly lol. The command probably know more about it than you if their not doing anything after all that evidence against the soldier. Also I'm pretty sure base commanders and IG know how to deal out punishment as they they did have to earn their rank and have been in alot longer than you have. It belittles them for you to disrespect your entire CoC in that way. However you are right and the rest of the military, doctors, and people are wrong? See where I'm going thats also a sign of "Insanity" the symptom being that the world is out to get you and that everyone else is wrong and your right. It could also be from an acute episode of mania, who knows maybe you should go see this guys doctor too.
Might want to check your grammar too! You're not so good yourself!!

I think there are a lot more broke people than any of use believe. In the Army you learn early on that showing any weakness will bring a pack of wolfs upon you. With that, most tough it out and stay as far away from sick call as possible. As stated earlier by the 1SG, that is the worst thing you can do for yourself.

I look at it this way. A professional athlete has a team of medical professionals that follow them around. They get the best of care and any potential problem is dealt with long before it becomes a big issue. Ask yourself for a minute if a Soldier, Sailor, Marine, or Airman does not perform to the level of a pro athlete. Not only are they required to do everyday, they are expected to go 24/7 like this. An infantry soldier would be a great example. Find me any pro that could hang for a month doing constant patrols with a hundred pound pack. It just wouldn't happen. They would break down just like we do.

Why is it acceptable for an athlete to be paid millions of dollars and then cry when they are a little still. while service members are subjected to much worse and are told to "suck it up and drive on"?

I guess I will finish my rant with saying don't judge your fellow service members for going to sick call, or having a day off because they are sick. Deep down you really don't know what their mindset is, or the pain they suffer.

Joe

Bottom line; allow the military doctors to determine if the service member has a medical issue. Hence, if the service member happens to be malingering he/she has to look in the mirror everyday.

I agree with ajw here. I work for the WG Commander and can attest to the fact that leadership is often read in on close hold information (e.g. medical info/HIPA). Not only is it illegal for them to discuss another members medical issues with people that don't have a need to know, it demonstrates improper leadership. As convoluted as the system seems/is, it is a system of professional medical personnel and leaders...and an appeal process in the event of wrongdoing. Why in the world does the op think they have ANY business inquiring about another members private issues? If people would spend more time concentrating on their own lives/careers rather than trying to merge in on others, they might be more successful/happy.
