I sent this to PEB on FB message and hope its ok to post here! I really dont know where to turn and its all taking such a mental toll on me and my family right now.

Does anyone have knowledge/suggestions for getting off active duty and entitlements? I was planning to retire but the stress and and poor MH ive experienced the past few years has made me need to get out (several diagnoses but some old, to include anxiety/PTSD, some normal medical stuff like knees etc). Im not sure ill make it another 6. Im wondering, since after 14 yrs I obviously have things to claim medically (and even currently am on unsuiting meds, benzos), if i pursue an administrative route (never had any discipline actions, excellent evals, thinking maybe family care plan admin sep? Open to suggestions ha), will I still qualify to be reviewed and potentially compensated medically? I hate to throw my benefits away completely since the reason I need to get out is truly the system is crushing me emotionally/mentally. And i have very honorably served 14 yrs!

Any help/pointing in another direction would be so greatly appreciated the past few months have been a struggle and im out of fight. Thank you again.

If your MH is bad the best thing you can do is seek treatment. If your symptoms are bad enough they will refer you to IDES or even better with the help of a MH counselor you may find solutions that can help you so that you can continue on. If its just stress from work and you need a change of pace you can look at getting out and joining the Reserves. That would be a way to keep your earned pension and give you more freedom. However, you delay a pension until age 60. However, you can get VA disability compensation when in the Reserves. You just have make sure you don't get paid for the days you are on active status. Not hard to do though.

Can you tell me more aboht VA disability and the Reserves? I would like to do both but cant think of how it would be possible. Or are you referring to getting out of the Reserves, you then go through thr VA process, not getting off AD?

If you are not on active duty you can apply for VA compensation and get paid for the portion of days you are not on active duty orders. Reservist and Guardsman can get paid while still in but can't get paid for the same days they are activated. Might want to speak with a VSO. This is more of a VA thing then anything applicable here. If you have unfit conditions and believe you should not be serving then to start you need a profile and seek treatment. Then from there its your component's decision if they think you are unfit. If they think that they will put you in IDES. If service connected then regular IDES. If non serviced connected then its Non LOD IDES where the results only get you to stay in or out but medically retiring or separating with severance is off the table.
