Hi Everyone!

Here is an overview of my timeline for Balboa in San Diego (active duty Navy):

25Sept15: Referred to MEB
1Oct15: Claim opened with VA
19Jan16: VA ratings complete, proposed ratings sent back to PEB
24Feb16: Received and accepted findings (20%DoD/80%VA)

I never received notification that I was unfit. The PEBLO advised that I should receive orders within the next 2-3 weeks, and I chose my last day to be 30Apr16. Good luck everyone!

how did you know your va ratings were completed

I knew when I saw a claim under historical claims. This confused me so I called the VA and they said this indicates the proposed ratings were sent to the PEB. Now I have another claim open, which will close once the VA receives my DD214.

That is awesome to see you got your results back so quick! I have been reading some terrible stories about people waiting 12 months+. I just started IDES 1 March here at NMCSD. I have DTAP on 8 March and then the first VA appointment with the PEBLO 17 March. If you don't mind me asking - why were you put on the MEB? For me the timeline is not as important - more if they are going to find me unfit. My history - I am AD Navy Officer that has a brain tumor that caused me to loose my peripheral vision in the bottom right of both eyes. I had surgery in Oct 15 to remove the tumor but unfortunately there is still residual tumor left. Incidentally they saw I have a brain aneurysm as well. I was put on the MEB for the vision loss and because I am going to need serial MRI's/MRA's to monitor the tumor and the aneurysm, therefore making me undeployable. I can still do my job, I just cannot deploy. I have only been in 5 years 2 months so I am not sure if they will want to hold onto me if I cannot deploy. Anywhoo - since that is my only issue I feel like my case would be quick because it is not too complex and there are not a lot of complaints but you never know. That's why I was curious. Thanks!

Sir i believe the process is a little different for officers than enlisted

Im fairly certain its the same, the only difference being his package may be on a better priority than ours. I definantly have seen a faster process top to bottom from officers than enlisted.

I was referred to MEB for my knee. I had ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair surgery. In addition, I still have a partial tear in my LCL and meniscus which further surgery would not benefit. I claimed about 17 conditions with the VA though.

Congrats I wish my stuff would come in soon.

Thanks! I don't know if this helped expedite my process, but I clicked the option on eBenefits to have the VA decide my claim as possible. In addition, I googled numbers for the PEB and VA and spoke to them directly on a few occasions. I just hope my orders come soon so I can submit my terminal leave request.

Hopefully all of our cases are handled the same - regardless if it is Officer or Enlisted. I am a Ma'am by the way ;)

Oh okay. So your knee was your presenting condition for the MEB but then at the VA the found the other conditions to claim? Have you received anything saying that you are unfit?

Sorry Ma'am :) . Essntially the va will rate all your problems from head to toe(you nornally go over all the issues to claim with your msc), and order c and p's to go along with that. the dod will have the va rate your unfitting conditions. so when you get your ratings normally the dod's percentage is less because the percentage is based on only your unfitting conditions.the va percentage you recieve is based on ALL of your problems, including ones that are unfitting.thats why the va is normally higher.

No worries! :) What are c's and p's? So when you get your percentages - are they giving them because they have found you unfit? If you are found fit - will they not give you your percentages? Thank you for your help!

C&p is your compensation and pension exams (the exams that will get scheduled for you with the VA). Correct, if you are fit, it will not go to the VA for rating

Ma'am from my expierence you only get ratings when your found unfit. however as my peblo has stated people have made it past the ratings portion and were found fit, essentially having everything rated at one percentage va side, and the "unfitting" condition being at zero on the dod side.

Gotcha. So are you found unfit once the MEB goes to the PEB? How long does the PEB usually take to determine if you are unfit or not?

took me 3 months, but the navy way of things dont give you any real status on fit or unfit , we basically have to follow our package from the peb to the va , and if they are working on ratings its usually a sign your unfit.
