PDBR Approved -- What do I do?

Hello everyone. I was medically discharged in 2005 and received a letter today saying that my application was approved and my discharge is being changed to medical retirement (30%). The letter does not say what I am supposed to do in order to get my orders, ID card, back pay, etc. Is there another letter coming that tells me what I should do?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Unfortunately, I don't have any experiences with the PDBR process albeit hopefully other PEB Forum members with targeted feedback shall provide some information soon.

Nonetheless, have you tried making an inquiry with the point of contact(s) as listed on the PDBR letter for any potential assistance? By the way congratulation and enjoy your forthcoming military disability retirement, too! :D Take care!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Best Wishes!

Hello and thank you for the reply. I was able to get a hold of someone at the number listed for the SBP that was in the package (only number provided). She stated that she is the first step and nothing can happen until after I complete my briefing. The holidays held this up and I was told that the packages will start being worked this week. Thanks again.

Indeed, you are quite welcome! :)

It's definitely pleasing to read that you were successful with establishing initial contact; that's great! Again, congratulations and please enjoy your forthcoming military disability retirement! :D Take care!

PB&A....

Yo yo, I was MEB'd from AD USAF in 2007.....at 10% for my back. (didn't realize or had forgotten after recently looking at records).

Randomly, completely out of the blue I got a letter from Ole Big Blue (USAF) in Q3 2015 telling me about this PDBR thingy. Basically almost 10 years later the AF tracked me down and said "Hey dude, we probably screwed you over on your discharge %, please send us all your records so we can treat you fairly."

AF discharged & rated me at 10% in 2007
VA rated me 90% in 2007
VA rated me 100% in 2014

Here is some advice that could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to you. Don't listen to me, don't listen to posters here, call this dude:

(On the one hand, I am supportive of sharing information/resources....On the other hand, I am not a huge fan of an advertisement/referral to someone who runs a commercial service to help folks....I don't push my services here and spend a lot of time and money to keep the forum up and running....just kind of rubs me a bit wrong that this forum should be a source of income for someone who has not ever contributed here).

Get proper counsel to sort yourself out, wish I'd have done it

Congratulations on the upgrade of separation to a medical retirement! This is great news. If you are not receiving payments within 90 days, I think I'd write my Congressman.

Best wishes
Mike

Hmm, an interesting comment in my opinion since a multitude of PEB Forum members definitely have vast experience-based knowledge about the DoD PDES and the DoVA in general too; just saying...;)

I feel very strongly about this: I am grateful for this forum and everyone that contributes. The MEB/PEB/PDBR/BCMR system is so convoluted and complicated, and there is no effort made by the authorities to make the system transparent and easy to understand, so this forum and the fine people in it are a godsend. To dismiss it in favor of (what was it anyway? A commercial enterprise?) is to dismiss the value of the best resource out there: our own experiences. Thanks to everyone here who helps out.

Touche, post 12 am substance influence noted, blamed
No worries; it's all well! Take care and enjoy! Peace! :)

my case was in final adjudication in December and after checking back with the PDBR on 11th of January it was still there because of back log, after it does leave PDBR and goes to DDA how long is that process, just wanted to see, it been 25 months.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the comments and support! I wanted to give you an update. I initially made contact with the number on the package I received to schedule my SBP briefing (first step). I was told this had to be done in 30 days but I made the call on day one (Dec 15th). The POC said she was busy and would call me back in a week. I didn't hear from her and called back the week after. She told me that she was not doing briefings because of the Christmas break and would do it the first week of Jan. I called back the second week of Janurary after not hearing anything and she told me that she was still busy and would "try" to do it by the end of this month (still nothing). It is getting very frustrating and I'm wondering what you would do in my position? I'm told she is the only person that can do this and she complained that there are five of us who keep calling her. Anyone out there reading this that is a part of this group?

Hey If you don't mine me asking what was your Medical discharge I was MEB/PEB also in 2005 have submitted my app in 2014 it's at the Adjudication status as well looking for mine to come back approved also

What I would do is just show up with all my paper work and stuff and ask to see her. But, be courteous and polite. Kill them with kindness. The point of you being there is to establish contact. So when you call them phone call has a face. And you would be able to see who you should be make contact with to start with. That what I always do tp get them rolling. Oh, the most important part is to make it personal. And don't forget to make a appointment . If they turn you away than go there every day. Why, just because so they can get the ball rolling and it bug the crap out them imp. Well hope this suggestion will get you moving.

I'm in need of some serious help. I'm so confused. I just received the letter stating that my case is being re-characterized to a medical retirement. I was medically separated back in Jan 2008 with 10% from the Air Force for COPD and they are now saying it should've reflected my VA score at 30%. I'm trying to figure out what this means in regards to pay. I receive VA payments at 70% but that's combined with a few other things. Will they look at my full VA pay or what the VA gives me just for COPD the 30%?! HELP

@Jason Perry

I can appreciate the diligent moderation but I don't believe I was honking for any pay service. Much like this forum, the site I mentioned offers good examples for claims documents and newsletters for free. It was brought to my attention by a Rep from a Veterans Service Organization. This is about Vets helping Vets, no? I challenge you to find someone who hates the VA more than Benjamin Krause or myself.

Call me anytime and I'll be happy to volunteer first hand accounts of my experiences with the FUCK TARDS at the VA in Houston. Show of hands,....whose been escorted out of the VARO by security for not taking any shit after 2 years of fucked up GI BILL payments to someone else's random bank account in Washington State? The lady even tracked me down and called me trying to give me the money she was so scared she'd be prosecuted for federal fraud.

Just sayin, we're all friends here, I only signed in & on because until very recently I had know idea what the hell a PDBR even was and this forum was a great resource (& one of few existing).

Peace

Oh, that and shoot me a donation link, I'd be happy to drop a little cheddar to help support your efforts. I know its a pain in the ass to run a website but this is a worthy cause.

Peace

A LEGIT question here as well:

Rcvd notification PDBR completed my records search

Q: Anyone had experience sending in information after you've sent in your initial app? Results?

I believe they are most concerned with conditions incurred on AD & those experienced & diagnosed within 1 year of AD service. In my case (or all) there is language which leads me to believe they will only consider conditions which made you unfit for duty at the time????

In example: My back was messed up in 2004 overseas, messed up in 2007 when MEB'd via IPEB, is still messed up 12 years later today where I am paying for injections and getting ready to have surgery on my own insurance dime because.....well......you know why. But I was only rated 10% by the AF at the time, then within 1 year 60% combined by VA ratings table for my back.

I also have 50% obstructive sleep apnea, had the surgery on AD, another related surgery at the VA in 09, yet this condition which was diagnosed on AD but was not considered to make me unfit for duty at the time of my MEB via IPEB in 2007.

Q: Will the PDBR look at the OSA diagnosed while on active duty and rate on it?

If they do I'm more convinced I need to send in further supporting documentation regarding OSA because nobody documents my case like I do and I want them to hear my version (the truth) of events rather than rely on the VA or their own interpretation.

Penny for your thoughts?
