PDBR says retired, next steps?

Hello. I was wondering where in milconnect did you find your retirement orders/214? I am trying to navigate the site but it is not that user-friendly. The only place I can find where I can get my 214 is the Defense Personnel Records Information Retrieval System (DPRIS) section. I just want to make sure I am looking in the correct location.

Brandon
Congratulations on your retirement

Thanks. I can request copies of all my paperwork from that location. Looks like nothing has been updated in regards to my retirement as of yet.
Hopefully it will be soon!

Another update...Towards the end of January, I reread the email I received from the board. I missed an important part. In it, they stated they were getting the Agency Director to sign off on my SBP briefing and the paperwork would take around 30-60 days. In the email where they told me to basically stop contacting them they also put to contact the number for the SBP briefing again. I called the number and actually got someone. I explained what happened and what was going on. The woman told me to give her a few days then call her back. She was able to get ahold of the office at Dover AFB.

On February 7, 2020, I received my SBP briefing. I was told they were just waiting for my paperwork. By Monday I received am email from the board telling me everything was updated and I would receive the paper copy in a few days. They instructed me to contact DFAS after a week to get an update and to contact them regularly. I opened a ticket with DFAS on Monday, March 1, 2020. I received a response on the 2nd. The processing time for updating my financial records could be completed anytime between now and September 2020.

I don't know when my records will be changed to retired. So another waiting game.

My advice to anyone who goes through this and gets their status changed is to call the number for the SBP briefing until you reach someone. They have a recording stating to contact 800 number if they are busy and no one is available to answer. The 800 number will put you in contact with the nearest base. The people at the base cannot do anything until the main SBP briefing location sends them your file. Just keep calling that number. I just want to state I was contacting the people for the AF SBP briefing. Other branches might have an easier time or different results.

Its definitely not a fast process. I had my SBP briefing last year and didn't get my new dd214 and retirement orders until last fall. Immediately sent everything to DFAS and they've been working on it for a couple months. From what I've heard average time for DFAS to process it is 3-6 months. Last time I called the lady said my file shows as in processing, and to call back in 30 days if I dont hear anything.
I'm on the home stretch, been a long 3+ years... best advice I can give is to just keep at it and be patient.

Thank you for your information. I was given the impression by the guy who completed the SBP briefing that it would only be a few months. I thought and hoped the majority of waiting was over. The response from DFAS made me laugh. I tried calling but was stuck on hold for 45 minutes. I had to get back to work so I used the online ticketing system. I will try calling again.

April will bring my time to 3 years.

I received the letter yesterday saying that I am being changed from the original 10% seperation to medical retirement 30%.

I am currently rated at 100% P&T with IU through the VA. The letter said I need to call and schedule a briefing for SBP, but nothing else. Do I have to request the new DD214, or contact DFAS, when can I get TRICARE, new ID cards? I have looked through the forums for help, but everyone has such unique cases and it seems like there is no standard procedure in place for this. I understand most people say 60-90 days for everything, but I'm just wondering what I can do to get things going. Thanks

Im in the same boat and rating numbers as you. Did my SBP briefing in Aug2019. Received Retirement notification Feb 2020 now trying to see if I will receive any back pay at all and estimate of how much if so? How much longer will i have to wait?

Hello VegasVet,

My reply below was posted earlier to your similar questions in another thread.

Re: "Now that I won PDRB 30% retirement and have new DD214 How long to I can expect to receive word on Back payment Nightmare to come? I have called DFAS and they have no info for me until they receive instructions to pay me. The VA took the first 3 years to pay off my Medical Separation pay and Im assuming I should at least get this money back. They told me then only reason I had to pay it back because I was Medically separated not medically retired at the time. I receive 100% now from the VA so Im assuming I wont be seeing any other money from the threads I read here. "

1. "Pay off my Medical Separation Pay": You are not eligible for disability severance pay as a disability retiree, so none of the recoupment will to be returned to you. It would not have been paid to you in the first place if you had been medically retired.

2. Potential retroactive disability retired pay: Your retired pay would be reduced by the amount of the VA compensation received each month. Often such a reduction leaves zero retired pay. One might think, "I did not receive VA comp because it was used to pay off the disability severance pay." Actually, there was an accounting for the amounts generated by the VA, but instead of you determining how to use the funds, it was applied to the recoupment. If the VA did not use your VA comp to eliminate the debt, you would still owe it.

3. Others will be able to answer your additional questions. The value of TRICARE is enormous.

I am guessing you're in the wrong thread as this is PDBR specific as defined below:

For a veteran’s case to be eligible for review by the PDBR, he must have been medically separated (a disability rating of 0%, 10%, or 20%) from the military between September 11, 2001 and December 31, 2009. All veterans separated before September 11, 2001 are not eligible to have their case reviewed by the PDBR, and all veterans who were separated after December 31, 2009 are already rated solely on the VASRD, so they don’t need to be reviewed by the PDBR.

No worries, I had to look it up just to be sure as this shit is so convoluted.

I am almost at the end of this long journey. I should start getting my retirement pay starting Aug 1st. The person I spoke with the other say told me they are still calculating the backpay but should be done within the next 2 weeks.

The only real question I have at the moment is how to get the VA to update their records for my disability percentage. I spoke to a VA rep and she told me they would be notified of the change and update the records. For some reason, I do not believe this will happen. Does anyone know how the VA records get updated?

I don't think the VA will automatically update your percentage. I could be wrong, but I believe you will have to file a new claim (insert agony of another waiting game) and include the PDBR decision as evidence.

Thanks. I have not seen any changes on the VA part but I did just receive the backpay this morning. I will give the VA a little time to update my records. If I do not see a change by next month, I plan on going to the VA office or trying to speak to them again. After waiting over 3 1/2 years for the process to finish, I am not bothered with more waiting.
