Good afternoon,
Can anyone offers some clarification on how retirement pay is calculated for a reservist who is prior active duty (+ a couple of title 10 mobilizations) who has a retirement point total of right about 6800 points (active duty and mobs equals about 16 years) who was found to be 80% disabled (PDRL) by the PEB? DOD website about Military Compensation at: Disability Retirement states "The multiplier percentage is at the option of the member who may chose either the percentage of disability assigned or the years of creditable service times 2½%. In either case, the multiplier is limited to 75% by law."
Is this saying that despite not having 20 years of active federal service, the servicemember can straight up choose to get the base pay average from their high-36 month (about $8500) times their Army disability percentage (80% but capped at 75% by law) instead of taking years of creditable services times 2½%?
Thanks
