PEB Timeline

Hello, this is my first time posting on here and I just had a couple of questions. I'm in the PEB process currently. I am an E-4 in the Navy and I am in the process due to post operative neuralgia from a botched inguinal hernia repair on both my left and right sides. My MEB package was signed and sent off on March 8th, and my ebenefits states "Preparation for Decision," does this mean I've been found fit or unfit, and if not, about how long should it take to know if I was found fit, or how long for unfit? My PEBLO said it would take 30 days if fit, and 60-90 if unfit? Does this mean if I haven't heard from them in 30 days, I can assume I was found unfit? Thank you in advance for your responses.

Andy,

If you are in the IDES system, your paperwork will go through the MEB phase then get forwarded for a PEB. The PEB timeline varies by site, but once they are done they will forward your packet as appropriate.

If the PEB finds you FIT, the information just gets forwarded back to your PEBLO and you get notified. If the PEB finds you UNFIT, then the packet gets forwarded to the VA.

Now the VA, ever since you did your evaluation with them, will have had an open case for benefits on you. The status on ebenefits.va.gov seems to not track very well with the current status of your case, so I wouldn't put too much weight on what the website says as far as your actual timelines. Your PEBLO should tell you FIT or UNFIT in any case, and if they tell you that your packet has gone to the VA, then you can infer from that that you were rated UNFIT by the PEB.

As far as how long this takes, my best answer is that its a varied timeline. My packet is currently with the VA. It was received by the PEB on 08 Feb 2012 and was forwarded to the VA on 23 MAR 2012, so you're looking at roughly 6 weeks. I've seen anecdotal evidence of people's cases taking as little as 2 weeks at the PEB. It really depends on the site that you're being processed through.

Carl,

Thanks for the info, and yes, I am in the IDES system. That's good to know about the ebenefits.va.gov website info, but, today after I posted this, another claim opened up that was listed as a "Regulatory or Procedural Review" and it's status is "claim received" dated 26 March. So now I have the original one listed as a claim and a second one listed as "Regulatory or Procedural Review." Would that possibly be an indication the PEB sent it back to the VA? Thanks again for your help.

Andy,

For specific information you could try calling the VA directly. 1-800-827-1000. I'm actually awaiting a call-back from them myself on an inquiry to my case.

Andy, Assume Nothing ;)
