Please read below and let me know what you think might happen

My MEB (Air Force) local board is complete and almost ready to send off to AFPC. Below are my diagnosis with Asthma being the reason for the board. Please give me your opinion on what might happen with the board. I am currently in a flying career field and can not fly with my current meds if that helps..

Asthma, taking Advair daily
cronic sinusitis
Allergic rhinitis
Eczema (hands and face)
Flat feet
Bilateral carpal tunnel
Cronic fractures in both wrists
Tension headaches
Intervertebral disc syndrome with degenerative arthritis
hyperlipidemia and impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes)
degenerative arthritis in both ankles
Generalized Anxiety.

Again, please let me know what you think...

Thanks

If you are asking if you will be deemed "unfit," then I think you will. I am a nurse and have seen many of these cases, but according to the MEB docs here at Lackland, it all depends on your notes and how well your providers have explained your limitations. You can be diagnosed with many of things, but if the providers state you are not experiencing symptoms and are able to fully function, you will be retained. The other issue at Randolph is are you able to cross-train? If you are a flyer, then you will most likely not go back to flying, but if you are able to function and your commander includes a paragraph in your CC letter that she/he recommends you stay in, but cross-train, you could still be retained; I hope this helps, but it really depends on how well your conditions are documented and also what the VA parallels with the active duty side of the house.

Yeah, my CC's letter basically stated that I can not perform my current AFSC and it is up to the board to determine my "world-wide" capability and see if it is in the best interest of the Air Force to retain and retrain or seperate..

What did your doctors say? Mine said to NOT RETAIN, or RETRAIN, so if your doctors said you are able to function in a different career setting you might stay in. Are you wanting to stay in?

If you are takign a steroid med and rescue inhaler, currently in the AF and your enlisted the good money is on UNFIT for duty and TDRL to see if it stabilizes. That has been the generic answer for the 4 int he last year I have seen from my work center in AWACS.

I am actually "stable" in current therapy, but still carry and use, on occasion, the rescue inhaler. The kicker is, if they decide Im unfit, they will have to retrain me due to the fact that you cant fly (there is no waiver) on Advair..

Below is a "cut and paste" from the Flying Waiver Guide basically stating that the meds I am on are NOT waiverable and therefore I will have to be retrained...

‡ Combination agents containing LABA and inhaled corticosteroid (Advair®, Combivent®) are
not waiverable.
