Possibilities of being found fit/unfit for service for having psoriasis?

Goodmorning everyone. I was diagnosed with plaque psoriasis two years ago and was prescribed topical steroids and nothing really worked until my dermatologist prescribed me Humira injections. Dermatologist referred me to a med board for my use of Humira and no signs of getting better. Some spots have cleared up and other spots have gotten worse. I constantly have to excuse myself to clean up after my psoriasis on my scalp and face, my body feels like I am on fire if it is too cold or too hot outside and cannot do my job at full capacity sometimes. I was wondering what are my chances of being found fit or unfit for service.

Being on Humira you will probably be found unfit. I am on it for Ankylosing Spondylitis and was just found unfit last month.

When were you referred if you don’t mind me asking. I met my peblo back in late Oct and have not heard anything back. Hoping I am found unfit as I have a year left on contract and do not plan to reenlist

I started the process 04JAN22 and was referred to PEB middle of August and was found unfit at the end of October. I am just waiting on my ratings from the VA.

If you don't mind me asking, how much does the Ankylosing Spondylitis affect your day to day at normal work? I was just referred for Humira use and AS as well. Will start VA stuff early January I assume

Before i was put on Humira I didn't sleep well and was just in pain and stiff all the time. I even had inflamed rib pain and uveitis but once i was put on Humira i have been feeling great. My lower back will still get stiff at times but no where near as bad as before.

Roger, sorry to hear you are going through that. But glad the Humira has helped. Helps me too and I'm happy not to have to take NSAIDS twice a day anymore. Did the PEB give a reason for unfit finding? Strictly the Humira use?

I’ve been on immunosuppressants for over 12 months, mostly Methotrexate Injections.
Spondyloarthropathy Diagnosis, case accepted by PEB on 10/19 and I was found unfit on 12/5. I’m just waiting on ratings.

From my understanding, being on any sort of immunosuppressive medication makes you non-deployable therefore unfit for service.

I hope everything works out for you!

Thanks for sharing your story! Did they give reason for unfit specifically or just assume it was for medication?

Wishing you the best in your next phase of life!

Of course! They didn’t give me any specific reasoning. I had to move mountains just to get my PEBLO to give me my fitness finding.
I’m assuming it’s a combination of the medication and diagnosis.
I think the NARSUM and other statements really help too. They usually have some sort of prognosis verbiage that they take into account as well.
Make sure you are upfront with your provider about your long term goals(staying in, getting out…)
I wish you the best as well!

I’m in a very similar situation, okay to message you?
