Pretty good pace so far...

after 3 1/2 months the VA finally completed my ratings, according to AFPC I'll have my package next week to be briefed. 40% af & 80 va. Question... How soon can I apply for IU? I must wait until my retirement date or can I apply as early as next week... Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You have to wait until you have your final ratings, your proposed rating are not final until they officially complete your claim which wont be until 1-3 months after you retire, theres a chance when they review your proposed ratings after you officially retire that they give you a higher rating

usafaviator- I see on the CRSC form that they want PEB (MEB-PEB) results and/or summaries. Do know what exactly they want? The 3947 and 199, or NARSUM? Thanks!!!!!
Physical Evaluation Board (MEB-PEB) results and/or summaries.

Physical Evaluation Board (MEB-PEB) results and/or summaries.

I sent my package to NVLSP for review. Hopefully they will accept my case and push forward with it. They requested that I send in my 214, copy of PEB results (356 for AF) and copy of VA ratings results. There was some additional paperwork to fill out, the typical records release, etc. I don't really know exactly what the CRSC board requests, but this is everything that was requested by the attorney at NVLSP- from what I understand, they will let me know if anything else is required,

VA states that my claim is scheduled to be finalized/complete between 4/2/2013 and 5/3/2013...for anybody following and trying to plan their financials post retirement, that means that (if they stay true to their estimate), my VA pay will not have started until 2-3 months post retirement.
Also, in regards to utilizing NVLSP for pro bono representation to file and represent me for the CRSC board...they have told me that they have ordered all required documents, etc. and that it could be 8 months to a year before they can even tell me if they will accept my case- what a load of bs. I forwarded my package to my Wounded Warrior rep in San Antonio for review and will be submitting the package myself. Pretty disappointed with NVLSP, but I guess you get what you pay for- and all the while they act like they are doing you such a big favor and you should bow down and kiss their ring....not gonna happen with me. I'll climb off my soapbox now...

Man, I just want to get my ratings. But then I still wait!!! Will I receive dod pay until va kicks in?

Man, I just want to get my ratings. But then I still wait!!! Will I receive dod pay until va kicks in?

My DoD pay started on time...my last check from the AF was on 1 Feb 13, and my first DoD retirement check was on/about 1 Mar 13. DoD retirement pay is the full amount on/about the 1st of the month- unlike how we are used to having pay split up on the 1st and 15th while active duty.

Now if it states on your discharge message and your retirement orders that your disability is combat-related will they tax it? I still can't find clear and concise information on that.

I believe that you have to wait for your final VA ratings and then apply for CRSC for this to happen (not sure though).

I believe that you have to wait for your final VA ratings and then apply for CRSC for this to happen (not sure though).

But my rating for DoD is finalized.

Your VA ratings are only proposed until you seperate/retire. Then your IDES claim is closed and a new VA claim is opened to finalize your proposed ratings. They have to wait until you are a veteran until they can accomplish that. The VA finalized ratings are what needs to be submitted (along with a copy of the PEB results and a few other docs) in order to file for CRSC. CRSC can only be filed for post-sep/retirement and you must have a finalized version of your VA ratings- which is why is typically takes a sm a while to apply after they leave the service.

Still waiting on mine, I retired 28 January 13.

Good update in reference to "post retirement" activity; thanks!

Best Wishes!

Now if it states on your discharge message and your retirement orders that your disability is combat-related will they tax it? I still can't find clear and concise information on that.

Unfortunately not being able to recall the sourcing document, a response to your inquiry is "retired pay can be non-taxable if the retirement paperwork submitted to DFAS states that the disability is a direct result of a combat-related injury."

Moreover, "Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CRDP) is normally taxable, unless retired pay is non-taxable. If that is the case, CRDP is also non-taxable."

Best Wishes!

I understand CRSC and waiting for finalized ratings, however, your dod kicks in right away. Did it state on your retirement orders or discharge message it was a result of combat? Warrior, CRDP doesn't apply to me because I'm less than 20

Understood, thus I am not at the transition point stage; still awaiting DoD/DoVA ratings.

In retrospect, upon entering the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process, I started my research and came upon that reference for historical purposes.

Best Wishes!
