I’m about to be referred to the IDES process and mental health will be one of the conditions. I’m only seeing civilian docs because I’m in a “remote location.” Anyway, I asked my psychiatrist to fill out a DBQ for me and she was more than happy to oblige. I know that for vets filing regular VA claims after service, a DBQ from a private doc is accepted and that the person can get rated off that DBQ alone.
How would this play out with the IDES system? Would the VA order an exam anyway, or could they just send that DBQ to the PEB for review and then rate me based off of it?
The provider that filled it out is a board certified MD psychiatrist that I have been seeing for over 2 years, so its validity is pretty rock solid.
Your civilian documentation of treatment will be accepted and used in your ratings. They will still schedule a C&P exam for your mental health conditions. Bring copies of all your treatment records to that C&P exam. They will go over it and upload all documentation into the VA system as well as go over some of it and ask questions if necessary. I wouldn’t sweat it battle buddy. Get all your documents printed and organized, and you’ll be a go at this station.
I had a CP exam that the VA doc wrote up for a solid 50%. I used my providers DBQ as evidence at the VARR and got an increase to 70% mental health alone.
