my ratings came back 90% VA 70% DOD
So I got 0% for my ankle. It's bugging me.....haven't signed anything yet just got told my ratings and the paperwork

Is ankle unfit?

If it wasn't unfit, have to wait until out to appeal with va or appeal to fpeb and show unfit.
If unfit you do a VARR and give VA evidence that 0% is wrong, which mean researching the VASRD.

0% means its covered if it gets worse later or needs surgery, etc. So its not a total loss.

Would it be better to get it looked at by a VA doctor to recommend surgery I was being seeing out in town by a civilian provider who recommended surgery and says even with surgery I'd get 70% back to normal

Can I claim other things that happened after the medical board was started through the va once I get out?

You have a year to add va claims without having to provide additional evidence that it happened due to military service. You could add conditions for your entire life, but it may be hard to link them to military service.

You can submit any evidence that supports a rating higher than 0% with a VARR. Read the vasrd and make sure the evidence supports a specific rating criteria. 70% of function isn't detailed enough.
