Good evening everyone,
I am in need of some advice from some of you folks that have been through this process. I have read and read and re-read as much as I can to be as knowledgeable as possible but still have doubts if I should go through this or not. This is my current situation.

I had three knee surgeries before the military. When I came in my knees were completely fine.

I spent three years in the national guard and received another surgery. All surgeries were meniscus surgeries with a lateral release and medical reefing.

I then switched over to active duty and am almost at 6 years active. For 6 years I have been battling my knee problems. Over the last two years I have had horrible IT band issues and patella tendonitis. I have been going to PT on and off between deployments and PCS's for three years. Tried all the shots..strength programs..you name it. Well I just PCS'd to start a very competitive program and I am realizing my knees just are not going to make the cut. I have been recommended by a doc (the third doc with this rec) to think about MEDBOARDING. This is the first time that I have actually considered it. I am very fearful as the army is all I have known for my adult life...I JUST bought a house, and just the fear of not knowing what I will get. I was hoping to get some insight from someone with experience on what you think my percentages will equate to.

Bi lateral knee osteo arthritis w/ right knee extending to about 120 degrees.
2x TBI's with follow on headaches and memory loss
PTSD that I just recently sought treatment for
2x laproscopy's for endometrosis (both were on active duty) -with bleeding and pelvic pain
tinnitis
lower back problems
Reoccuring UTIs

If anyone has the time to help me on suggestions I would really appreciate it. I have been having a very hard time on deciding what to do. I see some people who have a stubbed toe get 100 percent and someone who has several conditions as myself walk away with 10 percent. My biggest fear if I get out of the army is that I will not get the 30 percent I need to take care of my existing medical conditions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

*Disclaimer* I am no expert here.

The 30% that you are referring to and that ultimately determines retirement or separation comes from the VA rating for the condition that you are being referred to the med board for. All of your other conditions will only affect your total VA compensation percentage. I would research each of your conditions, figure out which you would be referred for and base your decision off of that. Good luck.

Thank you very much for the reply. So if I am understanding correctly. All the unfitting conditions are rated for the army side. (Which would be my knee and migraines) Or is it just the one condition that I am recommended for the Med board (knee) thanks so much!

Anything that is unfitting chapter 3 AR 40-501.

Thank u! That's good news. I thought it was just the one unfitting condition you were refereed for!
