Ratings: Multiple Diagnoses for Mental Health Conditions

Question: I've just received my MEB back from the DCSS. It lists two separate conditions that do not meet retention standards: 1) Major Depressive Disorder, chronic, severe NOS & 2) Anxiety NOS. For rating purposes, does the PEB rate these separately, or do they lump all separate Mental Health Issues into one rating?

I'm an Active Duty Army Officer with 15.5 years of AD, currently going through the MEB/PEB process for (primarily) Mental Health issues. I will be posting a series of questions related to my case, but will try to separate them for ease of filtering. Please see my blog entry to get a complete picture of my case file.

They are placed all together, My MEB DX me with MDD recurrent Mod to Severe and Panic Disorder with Agrophopia , PEB rated all together at 50%, Hope this helps BTW See the VA Ratings for Mental conditions and check the language in it to compare with your narrative summary and GAF, I was pretty sure I was heading for 50% on my, I had 24 active and 27 Total time in service (Perm Ret) in addition to Migraine, OSA, Back and neck problem was rated combined at 80% which for DOD pay purpose the hightest is 75%, Good Luck Chief JR

I too have been boarded for MDD, Recurrent, Severe, w/o psychotic features (296.33) and Dysthymic Disorder (300.4). PEB (?) came back with only 1 rating; 9434 on the VASRD and a recommendation for Permanent Medical Retirement (50%). Not sure if this will help anyone but...... I'm also a dual action awaiting "more info" from the SAFPC.

I was just curious about a Bi-polar diagnosis, I have been tested a couple of times and the results show "Bi-Polar" symptoms, but 2 different docs state that it IS NOT bi-polar, but rather a mood disorder. My NARSUM was recently completed, my question is, should I try to have the Bi-Polar dx removed and replaced with the mood disorder or should I leave the Bi-Polar disorder? Would either diagnosis benefit me more than the other? This is a time sensitive situation so if I can get any advice quickly I would greatly appreciare it. Thanks!!

Found out recently that the Admin discharge portion of my dual action process had a typo on it and had to be corrected and sent back up to SECAF. That was a few weeks ago. No word back yet. I'm hoping the SECAF is swamped due to the holidays and will take a few more months before my case is dealt with. Only need 6 months and 2 weeks until retirement eligible.

I hesitate from speaking up as I'm far from being a SME on anything on this site, but from my UNDERSTANDING....it shouldn't make much of a difference as long as there is SOMETHING on there. The VA should be the ones looking through your med records and deciding what disability percentage (based on severity/symptoms) you should receive and what they title your disability.
