Hello out there!

Just seeking some information or advice from others on this forum. I recently had lower back surgery on 11 June 2025. It was a minimally invasive transformational interbody fusion of my L5-S1. I have a history of chronic back pain, and lots of nerve damage seen through neurological/nerve testing. Anyway, I am curious to know if my surgery/condition would ever validate an initiation of an MEB? I have asked my primary care provider regarding a P3 profile (currently have a P2) and whether that would set the conditions to initiate an MEB. I'd like to know what anyone's experience has been with back surgery and the MEB process. Thanks.

Learn as much as you can which I can see you are doing already. Look at how the VA rates back condition and compare it to your symptoms. The Military uses the VA's ratings for unfitting conditions. So that can give you a good idea of where you are at. You want 30% or higher so that you can medically retire. Also, look into the nerve ratings too and if that condition makes it so you can do your job ask to have both conditions referred. Its always better to have all your conditions referred instead of fighting to try to add them later on in the process.

As always if you get into IDES looking to hiring private representation if you want someone to be dedicated to your case instead of having JAG to consult with. JAG has way too many cases to give everyone the time they need to get the best results.
