I have 19 years 2 months in active duty...

I have a combat related injury pulling me out of iraq. i have had two prior neck surgeries in 6 years and now my neck suffered a whip lash that messed it up again. The experts won't do a third surgery.

So...do ride out my time till next summer and retire and then a retirement check and disablility...or...should i do a med board and get out earlier???

What is the best option???

Hi,

As Jason always said (says) "It's in your best interest to get a good 20 years".

That is & should be your goal. After that it's up to you & your doctors & commander.

Also remember: 19 years and 8 months is not 20 years.
However: "dropping" your retirement paperwork (which can be done 365 days prior to retirement (at exactly 19 years)) for the most part, cancels any medical board, and is the only thing that can!

Does that help?

Rule of thumb is to always get your 20 + 1 day if at all possible.
