A continuing point-of-interest...

In retrospect, I waited 71 days for the error-filled DoD IDES IPEB findings, and I am still assigned to an US Army organization. But, in my case, I chose to be very patient with my wife and numerous kids awaiting the MEB/PEB phase-specific results without the assistance of any VSOs; that's my choice.

Bottom line is that an individual can voice their opinion or obtain the assistance of a third-party to voice their opinion, but the individual needs to be aware of the unofficial repercussions that may or may not be received in response by the organization they are targeting.

For example, it's probably not too challenging for the DoVA D-RAS to temporarily "misplace" an individual's IDES case file if they are bombarded with continued status inquiries outside of the DoVA established methods (i.e., IRIS, toll-free line and/or by US mail).

With that all said, naturally, the choice is that individual only. But, in my opinion, it's wise to be prepared to potentially accept the gaining organization's bombardment in return which shall definitely extend the individuals involvement until completion.

And so, let the catch 22 games begin!

Best Wishes!

I totally understand anyones frustration with the process, no matter what the timeline. Although some have waited a while for VA ratings and some didn't.. either way everyones entire timeline is different. I've only been waiting 30 days since my unfit memo was sent but I knew I would be MEB'd a year ago. The biggest frustration I see is the lack of transparency and a plannable timeline. Many here have literally lost a career and are trying to establish their next one; having no way to plan it is a huge hurdle. If I had to wait 3 months that would be ok if I KNEW it would be this long, then I could plan that. Not everyone is with their family, I've been away from my kids for 2 years now and not being in a WTU does limit transition a lot with available programs, etc. Not everyone on here cares to get just a paycheck for waiting, I personally think that is the most frustrating statement from anyone I get (which I hear quite a bit w/ doctors, nurses, etc.).

The length of the IDES process is quick compared to many Veterans.. but with that the s/m that is going through IDES has also lost his career and is trying to plan and transition smoothly to their next one. The bills don't stop just because you get out for many. I don't think its really as much as the length as compared to not being able to plan accordingly. For example, I have lost the opportunity at many jobs (good ones) so far, because I could not tell them exactly when I would be out (or within a decent range). If I, and I'm sure many, could simply have a decent timeline and not just numbers thrown out, I would be a lot more happy. From what I've seen, the wait is long and then once your ratings hit then things mostly speed up a lot and then all the sudden your left with barely any time to plan and prepare. If I have a year to prepare.. I would like to take advantage of that. Just my 2 cents, even though know one asked for it.

And I totally agree

Voicing frustration and complaining can be two different things

If you start the IDES/MEB and they say it can take a year for this process start to finish then their goes your planning, plan your translation from a year you start IDES, most finish before a year and yes their are some that don't. Many employers are starting to hear about IDES and becoming more understanding about the process and the unkown

I have a family also and I had to spend time away from them rehabbing through WTU before I even start MEB so they could see if my recovery was at a standstill, and then went through IDES in 5 months, my claim was cut and dry to rate and still took a little over 2 months to get rated, my C&P exams and Narsum was fast, then ratings was slow, and because of my injury some a lot of my time at WTU was spent in the barracks away from wife and kids but I knew that my time to be home on leave would come but I planned everything a year out because I was told the whole process took a year

You waited 71 just for you claim to come back with errors right, but some want the rating process to be quicker, speed isn't always a good thing because that's when errors pickup, and then the backlog grows because your dealing with appeals and reconsiderations, So if it takes them a couple months or so to rate your claim then that may e the best interest but atleast it's Infront of someone

And I guarantee the ones who want a speedy return for their claims are going to be the same ones mad when they claim come back with errors and they have to wait even longer for an appeal

So lets be patient, give them time for accuracy and the system will work

You have to think, all systems are made to work when numbers are normal, not for when Miltary is using IDES to cut numbers and now you have a major backlog and system gets overloaded

Welcome

Honestly I would say have no expectations. As far as ratings go, I've seen some as quick as 3 weeks and some drag on for months, including my own. My case was forwarded to the VA back in Nov 2012. The best thing is to be prepared to pull the trigger on any plans you have once that 199 comes back. Because at that point you have about 90 days and that's if you don't waive it. Then you can have as little as 30. I'm still waiting on my ratings so I'm just going off of what others I know have told me and what I've seen on this post. I wish you luck and expedience...

I know I didn't get 90 days here on wainwright. I only got 58 days includes clearing time. I asked about 90 days but they are pushing quicker to get out.

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

If I may ask, I am not clear about your timeline as highlighted in red above.

Based upon the information, is it valid to assume that you signed your DA Form 199 by checking the box "I concur and waive a formal hearing of my case?" If so, that's great! If not, what's the purpose of the continued interaction with DoVA referencing the need for "VA ratings with Rationale?"

Moreover, I am just trying to obtain a better understanding in order to potentially provide more in-depth feedback.

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

I think you make a great point. When you start the process, plan on a year (sooner or later than a year) to finish the process. This is a flawed and back logged system, but while most veterans are waiting at home not getting full pay and benefits while waiting for their results to come back we are or have. I know people that have gotten out of the military applied for VA benefits that are still waiting 18 months or longer. Some have gotten their VA award letters and are still waiting to get paid.

My IDES process has taken more than a year to complete and is almost done. I started my process in JAN-FEB 2012 and got my original 199 in FEB 2013, so it took approx. one year just to get the results. If you count NOV or DEC of 2011 while i was waiting a decision from the medical providers to start the process. It was almost 14 months. I just completed the FPEB recently and will sign my new 199 when it gets in.

Stay strong people, sooner or later the results will come in and then we can all move on and start a new life. Additionally, I know some just want their ratings and no matter good or bad they will accept. Please take the time, see legal and make sure you are making a good decision whether to appeal or not.

I almost accepted my ratings because I wanted to leave so bad, my unit was becoming very annoying and toxic. I am very glad I appealed, waited out the stupidness, and got better results.

I agree with most of the stuff said. I am happy to be collecting a paycheck for the amount of work I do(or don't do). But like everyone is saying, I trained my soldiers to deploy then found out about this crap and am now on a Rear-d while my guys are in Afghanistan. I've been messed up for the last 6 years and still finished the deployment I was on and done another since. I fought tooth and nail to try and deploy and now I am stuck waiting and hearing all the horrible shit that is going on. I would love to be out and not associated with my Brigade anymore so I can let myself relax some.

Like previously said. I'm in the high 60 day mark on ratings and over 200 in the IDES total. I'm not really complaining or venting, just trying to make sure I am prepared and getting myself taken care of as fast as possible. For my sake.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. This forum has been a lifesaver for me. Helped me see the bigger picture in the IDES system and see comparisons to my peers. I can't thank everyone enough for the information they have provided for other and myself. Just trying to keep that trend going!

Holy crap people are seriously starting to complain after 30 days. Guys come on, if you all start doing this it won't be long till DAV reps can't/won't do anything. It takes time, and if you've read any of the past 75 pages youll realize maybe one person got ratings back in 30 days.

easy, killer.....this forum is for answers. Just asked for a reason, my wife is due is AUG, i need 2 surgeries when i get out, and i wanted to know a time frame of when is a good time to start, "complaining", as you put it. If anything helps to speed up the process with ANYTHING...i need to know because the sooner i get surgeries, the sooner i can get recovered and get a job, and take care of my family.

OMG ITS BEEN 10 DAYS SINCE MY CRAP HAS GONE TO VA!!!! I AM SO TIRED OF WAITING THIS LONG!!!!...lol jk..well my ebennies finally changed and it says claim recieved as of 4/11/13 so hopefully ill be home by fall so i can start school...just sucks being away from the fam...i sent them ahead to Charleston SC so they could get a head start.

Day 134 waiting on ratings to come back from the VA. I know one of you is right there with me in the 130's in days waiting. No reason at all either. My commander at the WTU "claims" that my packet is on the top of the queue, and that he had some 0-6 contact the PEB president about it, but who really knows. I've done everything else I can think of and then some to push this forward.

To continue with the discussion from earlier--yeah it blows sitting and waiting...I don't care about collecting a paycheck from the Army -- I'm losing money by staying in as I have a job offer that pays me significantly more money (which in combination with my disability, I'll be earning over double what I make now). So yeah it blows. I've been away from my family for over 2 years now (thank you Korea, and now WTU). I'm over 6 months past my original ETS date, and with no end in sight.

WTF!

Good Morning All,
Been awile havent had the chance to update. I picked up my orders on 11 April 2013. First thing I did was go to transportation to set up my DITY move since I put in my 30 day to vacate apartment. Then I wanted to go to finance because thats another big issue and got some terrible news. My V3 code was not what they made it seem. It was not taxable but didnt qualify for minimum of 6 years and it will be recouped by the VA so that was kinda a let down. I guess that is it for now. I will be sure to keep you guys updated especially with the timeline of severance pay since that is the question and alot of people will want to know. I start terminal leave 1 May to 30 May and they said I should recieve my last paycheck with all the extra money from the army on or around 5 June.

This is really too bad. I'm glad to hear they have contacted the PEB. Even if it is in the VA's scope at this point in time, it is good to have those high level hands on the situation. I definitely suggest contacting DAV to give you some internal VA insight.

Also, I've been hearing a lot of you mention that you are not having much luck with DAV reps. I would suggest you contact the DAV in Seattle, simply because they are closely (literally) tied to the Seattle VA RO. Therefore, it is likely they have more experience with the IDES process than many others. Keep in mind many of them help veterans in general, not only IDES claims. If anything, at least try to obtain a DAV representative that is in close proximity to any of the VA ROs that handle IDES claims.

I ETS'd on 31 March, and haven't seen or heard anything about my last check and/or severance yet. Will keep posting when I receive something. I was on transitional leave all of March, and can't remember the brief exactly, but thought that said don't call for a status until you are over 45 days out. Anyone have any insight on that?
