Seattle Regional VA Timelines:

Off subject, sorry. I didn't know quite where to post it.

Who is the approval autority for terminal leave (active Army)? I was always under the assumption that it had to be a light colonel if more than 30. If guessing mine will be around 50. The reg just says "your unit commander."

Thanks, and sorry.

No worries, it's all good! :)

In retrospect within the U.S. Army, transition leave (formerly called terminal leave) is a chargeable leave granted together with transition from military service, including retirement IAW AR 600-8-10.

To that extent, information received from my military Retirement Services Office which is applicable on my military installation is as follows:

1. A Commanding Officer in the rank/grade of Captain/O3 is the approval authority for transition leave requests below 30 days.

2. A Commanding Officer in the rank/grade of Colonel/O6 is the approval authority for transition leave requests above 30 days.

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

Update for Seattle:

I retired almost 4 months ago, still waiting on finalized rating. VA told me today we could be waiting a year from our retirement dates for our claims to be finalized. Seattle is so backed up, can't even get them to contact me.

Jsa1974

I was medically retired on 4 Dec 2012 and still waiting to get paid. I talked to VA this morning and they have no timeline on when I will receive my finalized rating and I have put in inquiries and no answer back. So my prayers are with you.

Mine did that Saturday, went to my Msc and he told me my %.. Just waiting for 199 now.

199 Signed...now im waiting for my Trans..whatever. Got rated at 60% DOD and 90% VA. Any pointers from here? Not looking for shortcuts, just looking for a quick and painless process, so are there any pointers?

Four different people at the VA told me they are waiting on my dd214 from the Army and they can't do anything until they get it. I thought that may be good news and that my ratings were in. Nope, I spoke with my PEBLO and she said she didn't see my ratings and that she had no new info for me. My ebennies page has been in the "reviewing evidence" phase since 8/2012. I've already had a congressional inquary filed and I'm reaching out to the DAV for more help but so far my case isn't moving along at all. I'm about to loose my mind.

For the terminal leave packet, check with your orderly room or S1 for a sample on requesting more than 30. They will be able to tell who's info to put in it.

Congratulations! :)

If I may ask, did you receive PDRL or TDRL with your DoD rating?

Best Wishes!

I haven't seen my 199 yet but I have no mental health issues, and all of my injuries were joints so I'm pretty sure it's pdrl.

Congrats March! Your about a month faster than I am. When I talked to my DAV rep last week he said that the VA had said they were working on the last week of January stuff and mine is the first week of Feb. Hoping to hear back soon!

OK, I appreciate the feedback.

Thus, I agree, it seems that PDRL will be the determination; that's awesome!

BTW, are any of your PEB referred unfit medical conditions combat-related?

Best Wishes!

The 199 will tell me more, 9 of the 10 unfitting had a v4 yes, they all should be caused by instrumentality of war but we shall see.

You guys are discussing something I was curious about as I did not expect to be rated for anything combat-related, but then the Army surprised me by rating me at 70% DOD TDRL (50% for PTSD-combat related) and 100% VA.

That said, am I then eligible for any CRDP or CRSC pay? Or does my 100% VA pay trump the DOD % altogether?

I received Special Correspondence Letter today from Anchorage VA, Basically saying We have your claim, and are precessing-"Don't write or call us we will call you." It's been since 06 Feb 13 that I was found unfit. I have done Iris Inquires, Congressional Inquires, follow ups with PEBLO, and nothing. My life is on hold waiting for this BS.

How is it I see people posting that they have spoken to VA Reps, and I can't get past the recordings?
Any help on cracking the code of this mess would be greatly appreciated.

I just love those VA letters that mean nothing... but I guess somebody needs a job to do.

Calling 8am eastern time will get you through or keep calling non-stop and eventually you'll get a response to be called back in 15 minutes

The below excerpt is referenced from the URL http://www.dfas.mil/retiredmilitary/disability/payment.html as follows:

Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC) and Concurrent Retirement Disability Pay (CRDP) are programs created by Congress to allow eligible military retirees to receive monthly entitlements in addition to retired pay.

CRSC is a special compensation for combat-related disabilities. It is non-taxable, and retirees must apply to their Branch of Service to receive it. CRSC is a program that was created for disability and non-disability military retirees with combat-related disabilities. It is a tax free entitlement that you will be paid each month along with any retired pay you may already be receiving.

CRDP is a restoration of retired pay for retirees with service-connected disabilities, and it is taxable. No application is required. Eligible retirees receive CRDP automatically. You must be eligible for retired pay to qualify for CRDP. If you were placed on a disability retirement, but would be eligible for military retired pay in the absence of the disability, you may be entitled to receive CRDP.

Moreover, the purpose of these entitlements is to recover some or all of the retired pay that military retirees waive for VA disability compensation. To that extent, I suggest that you visit the aforementioned URL for additional information about CRDP and/or CRSC pay eligibility.

Good deal! Hopefully, upon receipt of your IPEB findings, it shall contain accurate information outlining your current medical conditions for military disability compensation.

Thus, possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer.
