Serious Transition Money Issues

It seems as if I may be the only person worried about money. I was recently separated from the military and put on TDRL. My last paycheck was short due to an error with my admin department and now I have NO money coming in. My first "retirement" pay check is only going to be $600 and some change and that's not even enough to pay my rent. I know that payments take time to process but WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO UNTIL THEN? This is really worrying me. I did everything I was suppose to do in order to get my paperwork done in a timely manner but I may not see money until June...Is this normal? How am I suppose to survive and how are my bills suppose to get paid?

Any guidence would be so greatly appreciated!
Thank You!

You may want to go to your nearest human services/social services and see what programs they may have to assist with rent/utilities. You will have to show proof of your situation, but if they are not able to assist you, they should have a list of orginizations that may be able to provide assistance to you. Have you applied for social security disability?

emoody,

I just got my results friday, tdrl like you. I have a few suggestions that may help.

I had some finacial problems with military pay a while back. I went to the IG office because I felt the people handling my situation were dragging there feet. The IG office helped me out alot.

When I was stationed in Colorado, a soldier of mine had issues with DFAS. He wasnt getting paid and they said it was because he owed a debt. The 5000 debt turned out to be a 5 cent error. The thing was, no one was helping his case, and he had no money to pay the rent. So, he and I contacted the local congressional office. Explained the situation and no more than two days passed and it was taken care of. Each Congressman has a person that does (congressional military investigations) if the IG cant help, mabey they can.

I would also call the finance office near you and ask if they could inquire as to the status. I think you can also contact DFAS direct. Just get a cup of coffee, get the phone and start calling. Dont stop till someone helps you.

I wish you luck and hope things work out for you!

OneFavor,
Thank you so much for the great info. I will definitely try those resources. I did file for social security benefits but got a denial letter in the mail at the begining of last week. I know I am not in as bad of shape as I was a year ago but I'm only asking for benefits for the time I was on half days. I'm going to look into what I can do about that also. Again, thank you and hopefully I will be able to report back good news soon!

ScoutWarrior,
The info you gave was very helpful. I didn't get into everything in my first post but my pay issue leaving the military was due to a "supervisor" intentionally putting incorrect data in the pay system. I've tried to go about it the nice way and contact my old command to report him but nobody seems to think it's a big deal. I have been thinking of doing the congressional thing but I wasn't able to find any information on the process. I will definitely look into all the info u provided. Thank you very much!!
