Soooo Thanks Korea

So I'm new too all this and have read thru several people's post. I am currently in Camp Casey Korea and was recommended for an MEB according to my PA. He even contacted my chain of command and informed them this process had started. This was 28 April 2015 and here it is almost 30 days and I have not been given any information. When I talked to him he said my Narsum had been sent up and the MEB process is done in the states and was supposed to be going to WTU at FT Knox. My concern is that he won't respond to any form of communication And from what I was told I should have a P3 profile. I just can't seem to find a timeline from someone who had this happen in Korea. I wanted to know roughly what to expect as far as steps and again some sort of timeline!

You need a PEBLO assigned to you. Your NARSUM can be sent to MEB for evaluation and signatures, but before it goes forward to IPEB, you are required to received time to seek legal assistance with an IDES Legal Aid/Attorney to review your MEB packet and sign your DD Form 3947 (list of all your medical claims, including the ones from the VA). If you disagree with any of the conditions in your packet or the findings on the NARSUM, you can request an IMR or a full MEB appeal. After that is complete, your packet is sent to PEB to determine you fit or unfit. If fit, you'll return to duty, if unfit, you'll be notified and your packet will be forwarded to VA for ratings. If you disagree with the fit/unfit finding, you can appeal with an FPEB, providing reasons for why you should be considered fit/unfit. After VA ratings are complete, the packet will return to PEB for adjudication and generate a DA Form 199 which you will either sign or appeal. You can appeal the ratings with VA by requesting a VARR with sufficient documentation.

Then again, I just googled (and therefore edited this post) regarding Korea MEBs. So I found this from 8th Army and 65th Medical BDE. It's worth a look over. See attached.

AKO has a way to access your profile in the medical section. A permanent P3 means the process has officially started. Your provider probably isn't responding simply because he doesn't know, once the process is started he won't have much more input into it.

Nothing in the process besides the profile and acceptance into the MEB happens while in Korea. Once you get to the WTU then things start and you will have the standard timeline, probably ~6 months. While I didn't start my MEB in Korea, in 2011 I had one who did. Took him about 6 months to get orders to leave country. He stayed past his DEROS by about 2 months.

I had a MEB from Korea. What happens is you have a P3 profile. If you want a MEB, push for the P3. From that point the doctor initiates the MEDEVAC packet consisting of such things as the commander's functional statement, orders, your profile, and a few other things you'll need to gather for him. The MEDEVAC office at Brian Allgood Medical Center in Yongsan would be the place to call; they keep track of you and send you to a WTU closest to your HOR. I had Los Angeles, they assigned me to Hood, I said some things about bad experiences in Hood and was reassigned to the WTB in Lewis. It took me about a month and a half to PCS, but everything was very proactive.

My biggest issue is this was started on the 28th of April....here it is the 6th of June and my PA has not finished the Narsum to start the process always seems to have some problem....I have tried to address my concerns with the PA and the next level up...was thinking of trying to find out if there is a patient serices and maybe filing a complaint to get a coal lit under some butts...I feel that 6 weeks to complete a form is a little excessive

From the time I saw the surgeon in Yongsan (15 April) and was told I needed an MRB I contacted my PA and he and the surgeon bothe talked me thru the process since Korea is different since MEB's are not done here...both informed me the timeline went Narsum submitted about two weeks later you receive your P3 profile recommending MEB and you are then contacted by PEbLO and a patient demographics is done....then you are orders was told all of this happens within about a month....and here 6 weeks later I sit

Dont worry about a narsum at this point. just get a P3 profile which comes first.

Not in Korea....for whatever backwards reason it goes Narsum and then P3 profile....I have confirmed this with four seperate doctors

Hmm, indeed, an interesting concept of operations in my opinion!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

I fly out of Korea to Fort Polk WTU on Tuesday. My PCM did mention writing a NARSUM but I have seen nothing up to this point. I received my P3 and I have stayed about 4 weeks past my DEROS... to me, no big deal. I am trying to relax and go with the flow until it comes time to review whatever comes before me. Don't get me wrong, I am educating myself but I would chill if you are still in Korea. Once all your paperwork is submitted for Medevac it can take 30 days or more for you to see orders. My sponsor in Fort Polk at the WTU also informed me that I will actually start the entire medical review process over there. He said it was so these doctors get to know me and my issue so they can make informed decisions when it comes to my individual case... we shall see... anyways, good luck!

Have a safe travel back to CONUS! Take care, please get well, and never default acceptance to any injustices while in the DoD IDES process! ;)
