Spinal Tap Mishap

I have had a similar issue with a spinal tap. Back last September, I ended up getting an ultrasound guided nerve blocker in in my neck for migraines. With in 24 hrs I ended up this pain in my back, like you would get from a cold chill in your spine, which then started moving into my ribs and then my innereds. I then went to the ER, and within an hour I had a fever of 101. After doing several tests which all came back negative they decided to do a spinal tap. I only remember them stabbing me twice with the needle but with tells me that they stuck me 3 times. The first 2 times they bent the needle in my back. In the end the all they could tell me is that I had some type of viral illness. Ever since then my back has been hurting. I've had some testing done, but they haven't found anything. The only thing that they can guess is causing my back pain is soft tissues damage from the needles being bent in my back.

Have you asked for a steroid-cure (prednisolone) for a 1-2 weeks??? it helps reduce or eliminate inflammation. What i think is, that we have som residual inflammation going on.I myself are going to ask the doctor about it.

I'm sorry to hear of so many with ailments from what should be an easy procedure. I have had two spinal taps done, one by the head neurologist at wright patterson AFB, and one at the mayo clinic where they literally do over a hundred lumbar punctures per day!! I had zero pain, zero headaches and no issues whatsoever.

I think these cases must be due to inexperienced providers doing them. The needle for a lumbar puncture is huge, and it goes directly into your spine! Placement is critical! The depth the insert the needle is critical! This should not be done by a novice but by an expert. When done properly by a professional there should be no issues.
