I assume its for migraines? It shouldn't have any impact for migraines and injections are not part of the ratings so you are good to go on that. Make sure to review a migraine DBQ to see what your C&P examiner will be filling out. Also, it might help to keep a head ache calendar.

Hello, as said above, botox will not affect the MEB process. I've personally had a great experience getting it.

Hey!
You mind sharing how your treatment went and the timeline from diagnosis to receiving Botox?

I’ve gone through a couple different medications with no migraine relief at 2-3x per month. Have an MRI soon, then a follow up. Going to ask for a neuro referral from there. I’m curious if there’s a possibility I would be recommended for MEB if sumatriptan hasn’t worked so far.

Once you have a neuro or pain management referral, it will open up the possibility of Botox. Typically, you have to try three different medications prescribed by a neurologist before you can try Botox. I was able to start Botox after trying sumatriptan, topiramate, and Ubrelvy. Ubrelvy helps stop migraines once they start, but topiramate was not effective as a preventative. Also, if a medication "works" but has side effects you don't like, that is a reason to move to another medication. I went straight to Botox after trying one preventative and two abortive medications because of slightly elevated blood pressure. Unless you tell your PCM that you cannot work because of the migraines, I would not expect an MEB referral.

sorry, just seeing this. i had to go through three different treatments which were antidepressants, anti-seizure meds, and blood pressure meds. none of which haven’t had any effect so she offered me either at home injectables (don’t remember the name) and botox. i’d bring it up with neuro. for me, i started anti-depressants in november, topiramate in feb, and beta blockers in april. now i have my first injection of botox tomorrow.

if you want a MEB referral then bring it up with your neuro to put it in their treatment notes. mine wrote „From an Army standpoint, reasonable to refer to the MEB.” once you have that you have to take that to your pcm unless your neuro is on-post.
