We are still waiting for a MEB to be initiated. We want it started so he can attend residential ptsd treatment. The facility wants is done 1st so therapy is not missed for VA appointments. Same doctor suggested both. Any way to hurry the process along? So thankful Wounded Warrior referral went though. I have heard they have great case management and we could really use the help. Hubby feels ready to give up altogether. Thanks for your advice.

Hmmm, not sure I understand the problem exactly.

He can't do an MEB while he's in inpatient treatment, he'll have to focus on the treatment there and won't be able to go do the various things the MEB requires. They could start the MEB and immediately halt it so he can go to treatment, but not sure what is gained by doing that besides a lot of extra paperwork. I think its probably wiser to do the treatment first. The MEB can be started as soon as the doc can say there's a reasonable expectation that treatment won't improve him to the point he could be within retention standards. So you could skip the treatment until after the MEB, but again, not sure that's wise.

We are under a unique situation. My husband is subject to a mandatory retirement for twice failing selection to O4. He is prior enlisted 13 years and has been an officer for 11. For regular commissioned officers from our understanding of the order anyways, states that the only thing that will stop his retirement on July 1 is making it through MEB and on to PEB. As soon as SecNav gets it I guess they can stop it. His retirement date is July 1st and he can't even begin residential treatment until June 1 due to wait list at he facility. It is a 10 week program. The Psychiatrist has suggested this course of action, MEB and residential treatment. Then he passes the puck to the LCSW who says he doesn't have time to do it now and we have to wait for the other 4 MEBS he needs to finish first. He is a gem! The neurologist is a civilian and doesn't do MEBS and the PCM is super nice but wants the specialists to do it. They all seem to be passing the puck.

We just want him to get into this treatment program. We could care less about the VA benefits at his point. I am sure he can get those at some point. The only way to buy time for treatment seems to be MEB though. the reason this is all so last minute is he just came home from a year in combat last Fall with PTSD. He left country early because he needed help.
