I just completed my tdrl reeval for ptsd and it was a long reeval. The experience was awfull in my opinion. I really hated it but it must be done. I was also asked if I have a job but I took it as if she was asking if I have a full time job. I told her I'm on SSDI. I just hope she don't take that as an excuse because that's not my intention. Basically what I meant to say was, I don't have a full time job now. I don't know if this will be an issue? Also told her I just started school because I don't want to stay disabled forever. I'm really trying hard to get past these issues and seeing doctors and taking meds regularly is really helping me a lot. Thanks..

From my experiences via placement onto the DoD military TDRL for PTSD since May 2014 and having already completed one TDRL evaluation for PTSD while being scheduled for my second TDRL evaluation for PTSD in a couple of months, I can definitely comprehend your current state of mind referencing this particular mandatory situation.

As such, during my initial TDRL evaluation for PTSD, I too was asked the question about any current employment while my response was "I am currently on SSDI" too! Hmm, it would seem that the medical provider was trying to obtain a detailed verbal assessment about any current employment or occupational endeavors and it's potential effects due to the PTSD medical condition's symptomology.

To that extent, in my opinion, I would tend to believe that the comments made to your TDRL medical provider for PTSD should not have a significant effect on the overall outcome of the medical examination due to the simply fact that you have been awarded SSA SSDI compensation benefits. Also, if applicable at this point, you are not currently exploring employment opportunities via the Trial Work Period (TWP) for SSDI recipients only in the SSA's Ticket to Work program.

With all that said, no worries in my opinion since "it is, what it is" at this particular point in time. I hope for a favorable outcome of your TDRL re-evaluation and much success with your educational endeavors! Take care!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Like always, thanks for the time to reply and gave me a different perspective. I just don't trust the reevaluator. I think that's one of our problems anyways.

Indeed, you are welcome! :)

In retrospect, I didn't trust the entire DoD TDRL re-evaluation process to include the PTSD medical examination requirement. Unfortunately, I was definitely accurate about the DoD TDRL PEB portion only, but for sure I had a very honest PTSD medical examination assessment from the DoVA VBA via QTC Medical Services, Inc.'s contracted civilian provider during that initial DoD TDRL re-evaluation process.

Albeit, I can definitely say that I still don't trust the entire DoD TDRL re-evaluation process and I am not looking forward to my second DoD TDRL re-evaluation in a couple of months via a different contracted civilian medical provider for the PTSD medical examination portion on behalf of the U.S. Army Medical Command! :(

Hence, I just received my official notification letter for a (second) periodic TDRL medical re-examination from the USAPDA TDRL Branch stating a scheduling extension (due to their poor planning processes in my opinion) to occur on or about 08/2016  WTH!

Warrior644,
How long did it take from placement on TDRL until your first reevaluation? I called the TDRL office for the Army in April and although it says on my IPEB to schedule a reveal in April 2016, TDRLs NCOIC and civilian POCs both said ( paraphrased answers) that "The date on my DA 199 for recommended reveal do not mean I will be reeval'd on that date; it's too early and it's only been six months and it will be likely the end of summer around August".

My mileage may vary but I wanted to get your experience.

In retrospect, the initial DoD military TDRL evaluation can occur anytime between 6 months to 18 months in duration; it's dependent upon the specific PEB-referred "unfit for duty" medical condition(s) and how it was rated by the DoVA D-RAS.

If the PEB-referred "unfit for duty" medical condition was a mental disorder then the DoVA D-RAS shall evaluate it either under 38 CFR VASRD §4.129 criteria or 38 CFR VASRD §4.130 "occupational and social impairment" functioning criteria.

If the DoVA D-RAS evaluated the mental disorder via 38 CFR VASRD §4.129 - Mental disorders due to traumatic stress, then ...

"When a mental disorder that develops in service as a result of a highly stressful event is severe enough to bring about the veteran's release from active military service, the rating agency shall assign an evaluation of not less than 50 percent and schedule an examination within the six month period following the veteran's discharge to determine whether a change in evaluation is warranted. (Authority: 38 U.S.C. 1155)"

Otherwise, if the DoVA D-RAS evaluated the mental disorder via 38 CFR VASRD §4.130 criteria solely and it was determined to be an "unprotected rating" then a DoVA VBA will schedule a future medical examination between 2 years up to 5 years in duration for DoVA rating purposes.

In reference to the DoD military TDRL initial evaluation for mental disorders evaluated by the DoVA D-RAS via 38 CFR VASRD §4.130 criteria solely, physical medical conditions and neurological medical conditions, it can occur at anytime not to exceed 18 months in duration from the initial or most recent TDRL re-evaluation.

With all that said, if I recall accurately, it was almost 7 months until I received my official notification of scheduling for a DoD military TDRL re-evaluation. Upon initial contact by the USAPDA TDRL Branch, I informed them that the DoVA completed the required 6-month PTSD C&P re-exam via QTC Medical Services, Inc due to the DoVA D-RAS evaluating my PTSD under 38 CFR VASRD §4.129 criteria.

Unfortunately, it was over an additional 4 months until I received a telephone call from the assigned TDRL PEBLO stating that the DA Form 199 was available for my review. Upon my review, I requested a Formal PEB (FPEB) hearing since I didn't agree with the IPEB's recommendation, but the results of the FPEB hearing kept me on the DoD military TDRL for an additional 12 months.

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Do the army can use my va reevaluation or I have to call my peblo and inform them that the va just completed my reevaluation? Thanks.

Indeed, it can be utilized albeit it's not a requirement at least after the initial mental disorder re-examination under 38 CFR VASRD §4.129 criteria.

In my opinion, I would contact the USAPDA TDRL Branch and inform that the DoVA just recently completed a mental disorder examination.

At that point, the TDRL Branch should obtain a copy of the DoVA C&P Examination then decide if that medical documentation is sufficient for TDRL re-evaluation purposes. Take care!
