my case is past the VA Disability Ratings Officer and is at the part where my package gets signatures. That being said, I am looking at TERA. Is there anyone with experience? Does your retirement date stay the same as the EAS they give you? Just looking to get some knowledge on the subject matter.

Thanks a bunch!

Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) authorized members with over 15, but less than 20 years of total active duty service to apply for early retirement. The opportunity to retire under this TERA program ended in September 2002.

TERA retired pay is initially computed using the length of service retirement formula. It is then multiplied by a reduction factor based on the number of months the retiree is short of 20 years.

Active duty pay x Percent Multiple x Reduction Factor = TERA Retired Pay
(Active duty pay x Percent Multiple x Reduction Factor (-1% for each year short of 20 years) = TERA Retired Pay) Partial years are also used in the computation.

TERA gross retired pay is also still rounded down to the nearest dollar.

Some, if not all of the services no longer use TERA.

edited to add:
The Army has ended the Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) program. Service members eligible for TERA must have submitted a request through their chain of command by January 15, 2018 for early retirement consideration. The authority to approve TERA was terminated on February 28, 2018.

The authority to utilize TERA until December 31, 2025 is for force-shaping of active military forces. So while the use of TERA is still authorized, the conditions for its use are not applicable at the present time.

When you request TERA you can request your retirement date, your S-1 can and will help you more. If you have any questions let me know. I worked a lot of TERA packages.
