I suffered a blast concussion during my tour in Iraq 2003 resulting in in memory loss and seizures coupled with several other issues . There was no way to test and further analyze and test my condition in the combat zone so I had to wait upon returning stateside for a more thorough exam . During this time I want to point out that much of the time trying to get treatment and go through my MEB I was almost always given a hard time by my chain of command . I think the primary reason for this is because at the time there was no place to put me except a newly forming and training line unit . This caused many problems because all parties concerned were only concerned about deployable soldiers. They had no time to waste on me. I ended up extending my enlistment like three times because my MEB was taking to long to complete . I was not letting the Army leave me to ruin when I was ruined in combat. When the MEB was finished I opted for the severance not knowing just how screwed up this would leave me. I had to survive on social security and what meager benefits is was getting from the VA ( because I was repaying the severance I received) . Just to let you know I received 10 percent after it was all said and done through the Army. I was disappointed to say the least. After almost three years waiting and appointments with neurology at the Air force base and several at he base hospital. I was let down. Cast to the wayside and unable to provide for myself or my family. And several years later when I had moved several times I get a call from someone saying that my case was eligible for review for a possible rating increase. At this point I really didn't care anymore . I was assured that my rating could not decrease any further and I would only have to gain from it. So I submitted what they wanted and almost two years of waiting my case was held up at the Adjudication . So what was , still is. False hopes and promises . Hurry up and wait . And wait some more. So much injustices done to those that love their country.
