The Waiting Game . . . . . . . . . .

I have recently found out about the PDBR and have submitted my package at the beginning of September. I know that I am at the beginning of this process. I have been reading about the PDBR and the Wounded Warriors Act, and all the different situations that everyone that has submitted a package tot he PDBR for and have been wondering if I am waisting my time. I do feel that it should be looked at just to make sure that it was fair. I was wondering if there is any updated information on a time frame as most of the time frame posts I was reading were in 2009 through 2011, when the board was getting set and learning their responsibilties. It is now late 2013, so there has to be an update to the time frame and a set procedure that is available. Any info?

I am sitting at about 9 months and my final results are imminent (I hope).

- December 2012: Submitted my DD-294 and a pile of supporting info in the last week in December 2012. I called to ensure they received it.
- January 2013: Received an acknowledgement letter from the PDBR Intake Unit in Texas about 3 weeks after that. A standard form letter that said it would take up to 15 months to process the package. They also returned my entire package (they scan it into their system so they don’t need the hard copy).
- May 2013: Received follow up letter in May 2013 stating all my official records have been obtained and that everything would be sent off the Adjudication Unit in Crystal City to go before the board. It was a standard form letter that said 10 more months would be needed. From talking to the PDBR Intake Unit I got the impression the holdup was with the VA being slow in providing records (they had to make multiple requests apparently).
- August 2013: I called and was told that the PDBR board finished with my case in the first week in August and the PDBR recommendations were sent off to my service branch for their chop.
- TBD: Per the DoD instruction, once the PDBR sends it off the service branch is supposed to complete their review and approve/disapprove/adjust the PDBR recommendations within 45 days. They then have an additional 10 days to notify the member after that. That would be sometime in the first week in October for me.

Just a tip, I called the PDBR Intake Unit at (210) 565-3256 to get an update about once a month. They are always very helpful and pleasant in providing a quick status of the processing (things like we have all your docs, we are missing the VA stuff, when it is going before the board, when the board finished, etc.). They can quickly look it up by case number or SSN. They can’t share particulars about the case itself or what the boards outcome will be so don’t bother asking them. They must get really busy at times as it is hit or miss if they answer the phone.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the insite. I was just wondering that it took so long when all this started that there may have been an increase in staff or something to make this go, a tiny bit quicker. Guess not. Patience is truly a virture with this. Thanks for the reply.

This is exactly what I've been 'waiting' for someone to post. Seems like every time I ask a timeline question, I get all kinds of side street answers...

I received my letter from the SAF/MRBR (PDBR Intake Unit) on 9 December that they received my Application for PDBR review. The letter is telling me that from the date they received my application, to the case date for the final action is approximately 15 months. I guess I will not hold my breath, although I am confident they will rule in my favor. Still, this seems like a tedious process that probably only found a way to get longer and drawn out over the years.

Good Luck, folks.

Just to give an update on the process. I have a contact in the VA who told me for the past 2 months they were tasked to call EVERYONE who was medically discharged from 2001 - 2009 to inform them of the PDBR Process. Apparently, it has been Identified that no one knows about this process. I don't know if this means that they will increase their staff to accommodate the possible influx (probably not), but I figured it would be good to let everyone know. Just in case this causes the process to speed up.

Now I worry about how long this process will take. Only a few thousand people have applied and the entire process can take two years. Now they will send letters to 70,000 plus veterans. How long will the process take? Allow me to contradict myself in the same paragraph. When did they have in mind to inform the vets that they may be entitled to have their discharges reviewed?

I got notification at the end of July informing me that my case has been adjuticate and in the process of send it to the Secretary of the Navy for final approval. I will have to say this, there is no true way to gage how long the process will take as every case is different and gets its day before the board.

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Hmm, does this mean that you can expect to receive a favorable adjudication upon final approval by the Secretary of the Navy? Take care and enjoy life!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

Honestly, I have no idea what to expect. After reading the board results page everytime it is updated puts that many more questions in my head of whether or not I have a chance to have my rating changed. At this point, it is what it is and what ever comes will be accepted.

Indeed, as such, I can truly comprehend unfortunately! :(

That said, please take care and I hope that you receive a favorable adjudication upon final approval by the Secretary of the Navy! :)
