I've seen a trend here.. well somewhat. It appears that the people that want their IDES process to take a long time get their ratings back quickly.. and the ones that want out fast take forever. So, in that case, I hope mine takes forever. I hope they lose my paperwork. Now lets see if I get this ball rolling now w/ that statement..

Timeline so far:

Sep 12- Initial PEBLO meeting
Oct 12- C & P exams complete

--waiting for NARSUM, approaching 120 days.. RIDICULOUS

Patience is a virtue as the saying goes. Have you reached out to your PEBLO with your concerns? I was referred in August of 2011, yep August 2011 and just now hit the TRANSPROC list. I completely understand your concerns. Have you reached out to some of the Veteran Service Organizations and / or the Soldier's Counsel to review your NARSUM when you do get it? It doesn't hurt to get multiple input from different people to review your NARSUM when you finally do receive it. GOOD LUCK.

I appreciate the advice. Although, I have exhausted my avenues. I'm surprised my PEBLO even finds his way to work each day less my NARSUM. I'm really not too concerned with any percentage I get. My goal is simply getting out with the plan I have. I'm really not in a position to wait and waste time simply waiting to proceed on with life. Of course I know this is typical so my post was more for humor or that strange coincidence that as soon as you say something then it happens... So we'll see!

The equivalent of cleaning out all your junk and then the next day you need what you threw out.

I am sorry that it is sucking so bad. But, at least I am not the only one who thinks that my PEBLO would need instructions on the heel of a boot to pour water out of it. I dont know if it's a new thing that PEBLOs are not savvy enough to help their Soldiers.

I really hated the fact that I had to call and darn near beg for any information from mine, and even then, it was like I was making his life suck. Too bad, but I dont think that calling and emailing every three weeks constitutes being a bother, especially since my guy would "remember" to tell me things only because I called him. Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt it their job to help us out?

lol, I'm starting to wonder if were in the same place aimspark, but I'm sure this issue is widespread across the military. I actually contact my PEBLO in the EXACT same manner. That is, about once every 3 weeks and usually by email, simply asking if there are any updates to my case and have I moved on the NARSUM tracker. This last time, for example, it took me 3 additional weeks of contacting him just to find out and even then I ended up getting incorrect information before pursuing another avenue of finding out.

Now, I am not an expert at all the positions that help run the IDES process but I can say this (at least in my case). It was presented to me very early on that my PEBLO was my "go to" guy for info. He was my link between the IDES process and the Soldier to keep them on track and updated. In my opinion, there needs to be a liason, a link, between the Soldier and the process. Someone they can go to that tracks their progress and understands how the IDES train works inside and out. They shouldn't have know medical terminology like a doctor or what not, but simply KNOW the IDES system. This way the Soldier doesn't have to literally self-educate themselves on a process that is, once finally understand, takes as much time to figure out as a freaking college engineering course. They should be able to answer the Soldiers question(s), break it down to understand easily what is happening at that time, and know who to contact to figure out exactly what is happening with their case at that time and relay it to them in a timely and understandable manner. I'll also add that they should be able to then see any hold-ups and shortcomings that can be addressed to the proper personnel to ensure their case stays on track, or close to it.

Now this may be what the job of the PEBLO is, it may not be, but either way it appears this portion of the system can be fixed easily. Either revise the position to require this out of them or employ a new position for it (unlikely w/ the current federal budget issues though). There are a lot of unknowns for Soldiers going through IDES and A LOT of preparing to do with the possibility of transitioning out of the military into the civilian sector. They shouldn't be put into a system like this with all this time to prepare, but not able to fully prepare because they can't even plan a window of at least 6 months when they think they will exit the service. But then again.. what do I know, right?

Have you done an "ICE" comment? I know we see those stupid little kiosks all over the place and think they are dumb, but they actually work. If you and other service members are being screwed around by your PEBLO, put complaints in there. You will be very surprised by how quickly it can change things. It will result in him being called on the carpet by his supervisory chain. A few times of that happening, and he will find himself helping the government cut costs.

Once your docs get the Narsum going, your case will pick up fairly quickly. My case took almost a year. Most of the guys that went thru with me in New Orleans were averaging 18 months. Yet in the Army and AF guys are flying thru the process, I feel for the guys in the Navy and Marines. I dont know why there is not a fair process that is efficient for everyone to go thru. God bless you all and good luck.

Does anyone know how to prolong the PEB process? I am just getting ready to start my MEB tomorrow due to seizures. However, I was hoping to extend my MEB/PEB process since I’m an Officer, I want to take full advantage of Tuition Assistance before I get out. My injury has resulted in a huge change of plans for me and I just want to make sure I can get the most out of my time on active duty. Thanks

Absolutely - just call them and request they take some of the time off of my PEB process and append it to yours.

Hah, no but in all seriousness I know what you mean. School benefits are amazing. Have you considered Voc Rehab? This is the greatest program out there in my opinion. I am going through graduate school and am not paying a cent! (Okay, I paid a parking meter on school once)

Oh wow, i didnt know Voc Rehab would pay for graduate school. Is there limitations to Voc Rehab or where can i find out about this program? (besides just googling it) Thanks!

You just need to meet with a voc rehab councelor via VA. They will see if you are eligible, and if so, if you can be accepted and if they will pay for your education (trade/school). You just need to prove your job makes money, there are jobs in that field, etc. etc.

Good luck with using TA now...

Update: Signed my NARSUM and concurred. It was sent to the PEB on Friday and from what I'm told I should expect the fit/unfit decision by Monday. I guess the previous cases were only taking 1 day. I'm also told that the VA has been picking it up as far as getting ratings back.. of course I was told that it could take 120 days but apparently the VA has all the documentation they need from me already and are waiting on the PEB for my unfit. Hopefully things go smoothly and the VA can get my ratings back quickly.. I'm ready to get out of here!

I dont know what VA Regional office your going through, but if its Seattle, they definitely are not not picking it up as far as ratings go. They've dramatically slowed down as of late. Hate to rain on your parade, but I think its better to take a realistic stance towards it. Otherwise, your probably going to be in for some disappointment.

My parade has been getting poured on so no worries there. I'm going through Seattle and I'm expecting it to take a while.. just trying to be hopeful. I've seen a few people take about a month for ratings and some 6 months and there really hasn't been much pattern to it.

Yeah... Most of the cases ive seen lately have been taking 2-3 months or more. Vast majority of guys that are active on here have been waiting since Dec/Jan time frame. Ive seen some go through in about a month. But there few and far in between. Looking at the tracker on here, a month for JBLM cases was about the norm. But that kinda ended. Good luck to you though.
