My husbands case is complex an not following the usual timeline. But here it is so far.

October 2010 Referred to MEB

November 2010 Formal MEB Briefing (we are under the old system and not doing the VA at the same time, which is kind of a bummer)

Then he was scheduled for a surgery-waited two months, then the surgeon was sick, waited another month, was scheduled for another surgery waited another month, had surgery at Civilian hospital which was successful, then recovery and

May 15 2011 MEB finally resumes.

June 5 2011 Notified that he needs updated notes from Neurology, Neuropsychology, and Opthalmology.

July 21 2011 Goes to all of the above Doctors who ask us why we are there. Um cause they said to be.

Aug 23 2011 Still waiting for Neuropsychology to turn in their report. When they do next week, our contact says the MEB will happen in less then a week. Then presumably it goes to the IPEB and we wait more.

Husband has the following unfitting conditions as near as I understand
A hole in his skull the size of my hand (nope they can't fix it)
Epilepsy (does anyone know if this is rated as is on medication i.e. controlled or as it is off medication?)
Moderate Cognitive impairment (shocking that it's only moderate really)

Is Encephalomalacia rated for itself or only for the residuals it causes anyone know?

He's got others that I don't think will be considered unfitting
Reduced Visual fields
Massive Scar on his head
Gastroenteritis from a year of killer antibiotics
Headaches
Pretty sure that's everything.

I know it's unreasonable to hope but I'd kind of like to be done with all of this and separated from the Air Force by November, it's been a really long year and a half and I'd like to take my four children, my disabled husband, and go home start over and have some happy holidays.

Heard from our Peblo today he says the package is going to IPEB tomorrow, September 28 2011. He expects it to take 30-60 days. But not to really expect it back until the end of November.

I basically started same time as you. Sept 2010. I am in the pilot program. My packet was sent up to Lewis at the end of july, I received my 199 at the end of august, I think it was about 33 days. Took the 10 days and signed my 199, within one week received orders, had 10 days to clear, and final out. Total time was almost a year exactly, 53 weeks. So I think it depends on where your packet is going, and whether they actually sent it up when they said they would. Im army, im assuming you are too. I would check your ako in 3 days, and it shouild be updated with packet received

Husband is in the Air Force stationed at Lackland AFB, the IPEB is here on base. He is not in the Pilot program unfortunately. I hope his orders come back a week after he signs and we can out 10 days later, that would be great.

To properly update the timeline:

Sept 8 2011 They held the board and came back with the following diagnosis on his NARSUM;
Meningioma, S/P resection
Focal Seizures, incompletely controlled
Cognitive deficit
Homonymous hemianopic defect

Sept 10 2011 We submitted a Letter of Exception because they did not include the 9cm diameter hole in his skull on NARSUM and report.

Sept 15 2011 The MEB reviewed the LOE and added the documentation for the Calvarial Defect<hole in the head....seriously duh how did they screw that up????

Sometime last week it supposedly went to the commander for him to sign and it's expected back tomorrow morning and then the PEBLO says it'll be going over to the IPEB with the courier in the afternoon.

So now we wait some more.

If I remember correctly, they were runnning about 4 weeks during the summer at the IPEB but it depends on if they are there. Mine took about 8 weeks because the first person quit or something and the second person went on vacation. It all depends on the people doing the review.

October 7th Case went to IPEB.

We have been told to expect a rating by the end of November and that we should be able to leave here before Christmas. I've decided to make serious plans for our post retirements status which are all dependent on the Air Force coming back with this paperwork in a timely fashion and correctly done. I feel like I've pretty much jumped out of a fire and into a frying pan but I've gotten myself registered for college which starts January 3rd, and I put a contract on a house at our retirement destination. It would be nice to have a place to live when we leave here. The outcome in inevitable and I'll just hope an pray things come together the way they should.

November 29th Case came back and they want more information from Opthalmology.

On a side note to this I would just like to say that I really really hate these people right now. That if it's possible for a woman having hysterics to motivate them to get things done they have plenty of fuel for the fire, I'm not proud of it but after being told last week that they were done and we were to get the rating early this week, and then to go in and for them to say oops they want more information it'll be another 2-forever weeks. Pretty much annihilated any self control that I generally have.

December 7th Requested Clarification sent back to the IPEB.

Hopefully we'll get our recommendation back in the next week.

December 13, 2011 At long last we have received the recommendation. 80% PDRL it is what I expected, DA 199 was sent back today and now we are waiting for orders, we've requested to separate December 20th which means we need orders and out-processing done in 7days. PEBLO said to put down what we wanted for a date and they'd see what they could do.

I'm happy your husband was able to get the rating that was expected. I have similar submission dates on my IPEB when compared to your husband’s case. My IPEB was sent to Randolph the first week of October; I'm being boarded for Epilepsy as well, my illness was the result of a brain infection while deployed and some other complications from that illness.

I was told they are backlogged at Randolph and also have been told they are not….It is good to hear cases are being processed under the expected timelines once sent to the IPEB… It’s rough to go through neurological issues and the waiting game doesn’t seem to make this better… Good luck on the rest of the process!!

Dec 15th We received our orders today. Effective Date of separation is December 24, 2011. We will be leaving here on the 22nd, on a side note a lot of people have really gone the extra mile for us so that we could leave here and get home for Christmas.

January 10th 2012 We finally received my husbands slightly screwed up DD214 today.

The whole move has been a bit of a whirlwind, the DD214 was delayed by over two weeks because the worksheet was "lost", we are paying squatters in the home we have a contract on sort of like renting but with out the fringe benefit of a landlord basically you break it you buy it. Now that we finally have the DD214 we will be able to get the updated VA letter of eligibility and should be able to close soon. The sellers have been really understanding with the repeated delays for which I am extremely grateful.

I was able to start school as planned thanks to the help of those who got my husbands orders cut and had him out processed in record time. However we were just informed on saturday that the Transfer of educations benefits was not finished because of our failure to sign the state of understanding. We have a letter saying it was finished and a copy of all the correspondence related to it including the signed statement of understanding which was submitted. I imagine that will get straightened out in the next few days.

DFAS processed final pay and started retirement pay way more quickly then we were told they would. Less then a week for final pay, and less then three for his first retirement check covering the last week of December. I was surprised.

After receiving the DD214 today and reading through it box 14 with my husbands education remarks appears to start with his education Basic training in 1998 and a few lines into it looks like they copy and pasted the rest from another persons record with dates going back as far as 1984 reflecting a career and education that were most definitely not his (he was 10 years old in 84). Will the very special and incompetent people that wrote up his DD214 today be able to fix this if I bring it to their attention tomorrow or are we going to have to go through the board of corrections or something of that sort, I know the worksheet was filled out correctly, because I am the one that filled it out. So this is a clerical error, the rest of the DD214 is accurate.

Good luck with those idiots. I did my work sheet, called, and emailed numerous times and never received an answer. My DD214 came yesterday and it appears to be correct except they stated I was unavailable to sign, oh well. I've read hear that it is very hard to get these corrected, I would sooner tell them he joined at age 10 and request retirement.

Like I said, this was brought up before and if nobody can help you, try a search.
