TRICARE AND ACUPUNCTURE: PLEASE READ

Re: Back issues L4/L5 and L5/S1

Chinook,

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everybody!
Chinook - With respect - You got my attention in your last post when you mentioned "...possibly chiropractic (depends on injury)". The majority of the world population does not know that Chiropractic is, by far, the best initial approach to health care, besides personal nutrition, exercise, physical, mental and spritual hygene, because it is the most conservative and least invasive care possible. Why not go to the Chiropractor first verses letting a non-chiropractic health care provider determine whether or not it will benefit the patient? Especially if the afore mentioned non-chiropractic health care provider has little knowledge of the benefits of chiropractic care. Why not let a Chiropractor decide if a patients' condition will benefit from Chiropractic care? For example chronic pain from a back injury. Most folks are unaware of the benefits of Chiropractic. Without having a Chiropractic spinal exam (by a licensed (Doctor of Chiropratic), it is impossible to determine whether or not Chiropractic care can help. Finally, I most highly recommend everyone get their spine checked by a Chiropractor, as part of their normal routine health care. And especially after increased stressful event(s), traumas, or toxic consumption(s) (i.e. bad diet, pollution, smoking, etc.).

dcudoc,

I moved our thread over here and invite anyone else to comment on alternative therapy.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.

dcudoc, excellent post. You are right on about people needing to take care of their spine-it is the center of our body: everything hinges off our axial skeleton-we best keep it straight and take care of it (:

You know, I am learning more and more on my quest to get acupuncture approved throughout TRICARE. When I started this, I was "in touch" with a high ranking individual (all I can really say for their sake) who said that I shouldn't strive for alternative medicine-but that I should be specific with acupuncture. Well, the more and more I move through all the studies I find that its all intertwined anyway! So you can bet that when I hit Congress up-which I will do, you can bet chiropractic care will be in the package too!

What I need right now is backing from everystate. I need someone who is willing to send a letter to their congressman/congresswoman and then just "be there" if I need more backing. I am thinking that the exact same letter be sent to each congress "person" on our behalf-looking for alternative treatements. We should have choices other than than, "take this pill-you'll be glad you did". We pay taxes too and I'm tired of the pharmaceutical companies running the show. So I say that "I" need backing, but believe me-this is "us". I just believe in it strongly and I feel that everything happens for a reason. I want to be able to push this forward so all those who want alternative treatment can request it. It won't just be me pushing this forward-it will be all of "us".

If anyone reading this is willing to be a rep for "us", please let me know. I've already sent letters out to TRICARE and my congressman. I'll be working with nlaw to get another letter worked out that we can all send forward. Again, just let us know if you are willing to give up a few minutes-I promise you that we will make a difference. Changes are happening-like rockymtnmama mentioned, Ft Carson has hired on an acupuncurist. I hope you will help make this reform happen.

Thanks again dcudoc-what state are you from??? You're on my list (:

Thanks everyone!!!

Chinook,

I would be honored to assist in anyway. Just let me know how I can help. Currently, I live in South Carolina. FYI, DOD and VA are hiring Doctors of Chiropractic as full time federal employees! The Army is in the process of hiring Chiropractors CONUS and in Germany, the Navy is in the process of hiring a Chiropractor in Okinawa, and the VA is increasing the number of Chiropractors to provide care for the overwhelming demand (and proven efficacy) for Chiropractic care! This increase in Chiropractic access in DOD and VA is a result of legislation that has been in the works since the original Chiropractic pilot program began in the 1990's. However, as you know the time it takes to get things through the bueraucratic process, the legislation has been slowed and the care is not even at 50% of the original mandated legislation. Nevertheless, it is wonderful that the DOD and VA are actually showing forward progress in this most important health care issue! Whoa!!

dcudoc,

Wow. I knew that chiropractic services were being initiated but I had no idea that there was that much initiative and involvement with the DoD and VA. Even though its less than 50%-thats something to excited about! Yes, the legislation process is long-but I think we are all ready for the long haul. Since chiropractic services are coming along, I'll just stick with my acupuncture stance. (: But, like I was saying, most of the studies combine all alternative therapies-and its a plus that chiropractic medicine is doing so well and catching on, albeit its taken awhile. This is very exciting and I'll see if my VA here in Colo Springs offers it. I have my first dr. visit with them in about 2 weeks. I'll let you know. (:

The following website is to the acupuncture research site; I was trying to attach the Dec 09 newsletter because it has info on Gulf War Syndrome and acupuncture treatment, but I could only get the main website to paste. its great info for anyone who wants to know more about acupuncture. The organization is actually all about research. www.acupunctureresearch.org

I'm going to put you down for South Carolina (: For now I'm still collecting representatives from each state-then we'll get these letters out to our congressman/woman and then go from there. I appreciate your support and enthusiasm!

I always enjoy reading your posts.

Talk to you soon,

Chinook

Chinook, I agree that acupuncture should be covered.
If anyone is interested, I have also started a petition at the WH.org site asking that Obamacare cover Tricare and Medicare recipients for acupuncture treatments. We need to have at least 150 signatures in order for the petition to go public. In the meantime, it is here:

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/acupuncture-coverage/2dR9K981

Any help is appreciated! We need 25,000 signatures by Dec. 13, 2012 before it would even be considered by the WH.

PLEASE READ AND SEND A LETTER TO TRICARE.

Please, we need everyone's assitance. Its time TRICARE approved the use of acupuncture as a treatment option for our military and family members.

If you like, you can search our forum and see how many people have been helped by acupuncture. But, it does cost out of pocket right now. Between $50-100 treatment. Its time acupuncture became a paid benefit.

I have been in contact with TRICARE officials and I have been told the following:

In the past, TRICARE didn't cover lap band procedures. However, because of the overwhelming requests and the proven medical success, they did start covering this procedure.

So, TRICARE reps have said to do the following:

Send a letter stating that you want TRICARE to cover acupuncture.

Say it however you want...but send the letter. For the cost of a stamp and a little bit of your time, you can help change someone's life for the better.

Send the letter to:

TRIWEST HEALTHCARE
CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPT
PO BOX 42049
PHEONIX, AZ 85080

In addition to TRICARE, I have contacted several elected officials. TRICARE has asked that we give them the opportunity to respond before contacting more officials. So, I will wait for a little while and give TRICARE some time to process our requests.

If you know/have military families and friends, please forward them the address to TRICARE and ask them to send a letter to get the acupuncture approved as a benefit.

The following is a list of URL's containing info about the military and acupuncture:

This is really significant to so many people. Your help is appreciated!!!

Thank you so much!!!
