Hello i'll be medically retired 30 % at the end of the month, I've been waiting about a year to get surgery on my wrist again because of a initial failed reconstruction on my wrist and then the MEB process. I am re-enrolling in Tricare Prime for me and my family after my retirement date Apr 27, just wondering the pro's and cons of each route i can take to get the surgery if you all have any information/opinions i figure i can most likely get the surgery faster with tricare but it will make it easier to deal with the VA if i have the surgery with them since i wont be able to work at all for at least a month after i have the surgery and would that come with a temporary increased rating while im recovering?

Thank you.

You should be eligible to receive the temporary 100% disability rating during recovery regardless of who does the surgery, have your local VSO (Veterans Service Officer) help you fill out the form.

Tricare Prime hospitalization co-pay for Retirees is $11 a day, so it's not going to be a real concern.

Tricare comes with some control over what surgeon cuts into you, the VA is a shot in the dark, and the VA has a reputation of not recruiting the best of doctors, I'm sure there's good ones, but many aren't worth a damn.

In my mind, that's a no-brainer, I wouldn't let the VA touch me.

Congrats on being medically retired, be sure to consider SBP for your family, it's something you have to decide on within a certain time frame of retirement.

Hope this helps...
