UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS AFTER LEAVING THE SERVICE & MORE....

PEB Forum:
I was med boarded and eventually medically retired on early Aug, 2013 and move to FL soon afterwards. Around Sept 2013, I applied for unemployment benefits and almost a month later, I got a letter from the incumbent office, notifying me that do not qualify or are eligible to received any benefits due to the fact that I received retirement pay. The funny thing about this is that after more than 18 years (including reserves, civil service, active duty and 13 years private, civilian work, I have ever used or claimed unemployment and know that I really needed I get turned down, because I can "subsist with 1460 a months with a wife, mortg. and 2.5 teenagers. PS: I just recently received final VA ratings, 90%. Any intel?

As I understand it, your weekly benefit is reduced by your receiving military retired pay.

My buddy retired and rec'd 2, 000 in retirement pay. But their weekly UI (UCX) benefit amount was reduced by the retirement rec'd, so they only got 100 per week UI (UCX). They filed in Washington State where they lived (it happens that Washington State has one of the highest UI weekly benefit amount rates West of the Mississippi). I imagine if they had filed in Florida, they would have not rec'd anything as their UI (UCX) would have been totally off-set as Florida's weekly UI (UCX) maximum ceiling amount is lower than in Washington State.

This is why many retiree SMs file in Washington State. Or Massachusetts. My info is two years old, so things may have changed since.
