Hey everyone. I have recently been put up for MEB and im kinda lost. Ive been having severe muscle pain for the past two years and havent been able to run. the drs cant find anything. I have been to multiple different specialists and still nothing. I was wondering what the MEB would most likely come back with? i mean, will the fact that no one knows whats wrong make them come back with a bunch of things to test for, or will they just say that im not worth fixing so heres your discharge date? didnt know if anyone is having this issue or knows of anyone who has?

I have headaches but they don't know what causes them or what type they are. I have been still seeking help while going through the MEB. I would say it is worth the shot. You have to live with your body for the rest of your life. If it hurts but they can't find anything who cares. As long as you know there is something wrong then that is all that matters.

well my fear is that they will come back and say that theres nothing wrong and i need to go back to running. its aggrivating because i know there is something wrong but they cant find anything.

You gotta fight for it. If it seriously is hurt then you got to make it known that it affects your ability to run. It is all you can do. If it comes back good then it was worth the fight and if comes back not what you wanted then you have to fight harder. In my case, I was still found unfit even though all the doctors are scratching their head.

Initally I wanted to stay in but after 20 months in the system I am have deicded I would rather go on with my life. And yes the AF has pretty much said that they will let the VA take care of me. The wonderous system of government healthcare...

honestly, thats how i feel as well. the drs have gotten no where in 2 damn years. i just want to feel better and the AF is doin nothing for me. have you been going through the MEB for 20 months?? oh lord i was hoping that it really wouldnt take that long...i know of people that have gone through the whole process in between 2 to 6 months. i didnt know it actually ever took a year-ish

Average is a year. Mine has been a mess all because I asked for a second opinion on a tumor I had in my sinus cavity which they were going to do nothing about (I just had it removed 1.5 months ago...I fought the good fight). It also depends where you are stationed. Some places are better than others.

oh man. im sorry to hear that. glad they removed it though. are you getting retired then? im really just afraid of not knowing whats going on. its kinda impossible to make plans for jobs and where to live and all when your in limbo and your life can turn upside down at any point.

Dont know what I am getting yet just know I am unfit. That is the hardest part is the unknown, that is why it is important for you to start planning for the worst now and hoping for the best.

oh we are. just hoping everything works out for the best. its definitely going to be a long process. i hope everythinh works out for you!

Request an EMG for neuro damage. The test is not fun (at all), but may be what you need to get a proper diagnosis. DON'T RUN through abnormal pain....if you know something is wrong, you will only worsen it. I'm not tlaking about pain from normal lactic acid buildup, etc...but abnormal-to-you type of pain. I used to run 8-10 miles a day with a buddy and he decided to run through pain one day and ended up blowing out muscles and nerves from his calf all the way up to his C-spine...he will probably never run again.

oh wow. neuro damage. i asked my dr about doing brain MRI's and all but he says theres nothing to look for...no i told my dr that i couldnt run and i havent for an entire year. the problem is spreading up my legs and is getting worse to where it is painfull walking up the stairs. so my fear is the MEB doesnt find anything and just seperatees me all the while my problem is consistently getting worse.

Look up info on EMG testing, you really should consider it and request it. Don't take "we don't know" or "suck it up" as a vaild medical answer/diagnosis. The procedure is slightly painful, not so much when they are testing your legs, but when they get to your spine..

I had leg numbness and pain which ended up being a mass of dead nerves in my brain at the base of my skull. It took a bunch of tests from neurology and yes a lot of them were painful. If you have not seen a Neurologist you need to. It took about a year to diagnose my issues and my MEB took just over 10 months.

looks like i need to re visit my dr. my pain is with activity, i.e. running, walking far/fast, walking upstairs etc. if you dont mind me asking, is this close to what you expirience?

i will bring this up as well. its interesting that ya'll are coming up with possibilities when my dr says theres nothing else he can do for me...

Yes. In my case, however, I have compartment syndrome in my right calf and DDD and mild scholisis (sp) in my lower back, all related to landing wrong when I jumped off my acft and landed wrong on the ramp with all my gear mounted. But, they had to do the EMG test to determine that there was additional neuro damage on top of everything else....otherwise they (I) would have never known.

so did you/are you getting seperated? or can they fix whats wrong? i had a compartment symdrome test, that was painful. came back negative though. i cant trace my pain back to a injury. it just started while i was running in BMT.
