Good Morning, Folks.

This forum has helped tremendously in taking the steps to seek help and start a conversation with my PCM about a possible MEB. Thank you very much for that, it was literally life-changing (and possibly life-saving).

I will continuously update this thread with my timeline to help other people in similar situations. If any of the experienced users see something that I should be wary of throughout my journey, I would really appreciate it if you would let me know as I am trying my best to make informed decisions on all steps. For example, I know I am super early in the process but I am already backing up all my medical history and military records. Furthermore, just for some context, I am a 6-year SSgt in the USAF and have never had any administrative issues on my record.

2021 - Qatar Deployment / Afghanistan Evacuation Support (Possible Trigger)
2021 - 2024 - Confidential Counselors (Military OneSource and MFLCs)
July 2024 - Finally Decide to Seek Medical Help
October 2024 - Psychiatrist Diagnostic of Bipolar II (Comorbid with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD) (After 3 Appointments) + Medication
10.21.2024 - Electronic Communication with Patrick AFB MDG
10.28.2024 - AAC 31/DAV 41 Coded

Thanks, all!

Hello, All.

I have received a phone call from Patrick AFB stating that my name has popped up in their weekly meetings and they wish to validate the diagnostic through a Mental Health Appointment on base. The officer on the phone was very attentive and explained the process going forward.

I believe this appointment will be more administrative than anything else, but I am happy to read any suggestions you may have. I will bring my diagnostics, psychiatrist notes, and current medications. The timeline has been updated in the signature.

Thanks!

Happy New Year!

The appointment went well and the doctor was very professional.

The latest updates I have are the following:

12.06.2024 - Appointment and Recommended for MEB
12.13.2024 - AAC 37/DAV 42 Coded
01.23.2025 - 31/DAV 41 Cleared // AAC 37/DAV 42 Remains

Although my AF469 reflects the MEB, I still have not received any message from the MDG, PEBLO, or my CC (I am keeping my unit updated on the process so they are not hit with a random email). I plan to follow up in a couple of weeks to see if I should be doing anything to move the process forward. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations, please let me know.

Thank you!

Some bases do things differently. Your MTF may conduct their process like mine does (hopefully not the case, though).
Once the code 37 was applied in my 469, my first ever contact with a peblo was 2 months later.
Apparently here, the peblo gathers the narsum and cis behind the scenes and then sends to afpc. once your fl4 is returned from afpc, a peblo will reach out and tell you if you were returned to duty or if full meb required. if full meb is required, then they scheduled the initial peblo brief.
I hate this method because I was out of the loop and in the dark for two months after being told by my pcm "your meb package was approved locally. a peblo will reach out to you now"

Thank you very much for the information! Very interesting.

I may be in a similar situation. I contacted my PCM Team, who stated that I should just stand by to be contacted by the PEBLO.

More updates to follow - thanks!

Good News!

PEBLO has officially contacted me and CIS has been signed with a "DO NOT RETAIN."

I have also started talking with PEBLO about coordinating the VR&E application in the next couple of weeks. I recently read that:

Severely injured active-duty service members can automatically receive VR&E benefits before VA issues a disability rating. This is according to Sec. 1631(b) of the National Defense Authorization Act (PL 110-181). (Eligibility for Veteran Readiness and Employment | Veterans Affairs)

Thus, I wish to take advantage of this opportunity.

Things seem to be moving! Thank you all.

Yep I enrolled and I'm in it only took about a week to be approved but yet to have contact with my vr&e representative from back home.

Makes sense since we are in the same region on AF bases.

I'm hoping my peblo can provide me some info on vr&e. i have read numerous times on here that ides personnel are "auto-approved".

I just had my appointment with my vr&e counselor, your MSC is suppose to refer u to the vr&e rep not your PEBLO. I somehow “ missed” my emailed from the vr&e rep back in October my MSc said but I don’t think they ever emailed me lol . Lucky I emailed my PEBLO asking about vr&e and she said it’s the MSC job . Emailed him and boom I had a counselor assigned to me the same day .

I applied and got denied I’m like how sway
Did you put that your in IDES on the application? If your in IDES your automatically eligible no matter the outcome(makes sense since no one comes out with less then 10%).

Awesome! Thank you for the helpful discussion, y'all.

PEBLO advised me to wait until we receive confirmation that the IDES/MEB has officially begun to initiate any other VA process.

As always, I'll keep you all updated.

Received the following notification today:

IRILO has completed and HQ is directing Full MEB/DES processing!
Thus, the IDES officially starts...

I have also filled and signed my "SHA DBQ PART A SELF ASSESSMENT."

I'll keep you all posted!

If you haven't already I would get in contact with the Air Force Wounded Warrior(AFW2) representative for your base. I also have Bipolar II and qualified for AFW2. Once you're in you'll be able to go to care events and try out for the AFW2 adaptive sports teams. Your AFW2 care coordinator will also show you other benefits that are available to you.

Thank you very much for the information! I will surely have a look.

Quick update: I had my official PEBLO briefing this past Friday and will have my package forwarded to the VA this week. The VA process should begin in the next couple of weeks.

Please wish me luck! :)

Things seem to be moving. This past week:
- MSC briefing
- Filled out 21-526EZ
- Filled out VR&E application
- Received notification from Optum Serve that they'll be handling my C&P exams
