VA caregiver program

Hey Warrior can I get 92120 to please. For a friend.
Thanks in advance

Indeed; ask and you shall receive...

Enter the ZIP code of the geographic location where the Service member currently resides: 92120

For the "San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos, CA" area, an approved VA caregiver for "SAN DIEGO" county in the location of "San Diego, CA" at a "Local Hourly Wage" of $12.59 is...
  • Tier 1 is looking at $547.67 for a monthly stipend amount (e.g., 10 hours of care)
  • Tier 2 is looking at $1,369.16 for a monthly stipend amount (e.g., 25 hours of care)
  • Tier 3 is looking at $2,190.66 for a monthly stipend amount (e.g., 40 hours of care)
NOTE the "Disclaimer: These compensation rates are subject to change based on revisions made to Bureau of Labor Statistics wage rates."

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

If one applys for the caregiver program does it put all your ratings up for review ?

They look at what your service connected for to see if your have qualifying in injuries, but the evaluation from doctors is what shows what daily assistance is needed

I called CA office and spoke to my old chief, I am sitting up an appt with my PC team doc (pcm is a NP) to get the form done for SCAADL, it is alot more restrictive appearing than the VA side, but I think I should qualify, if they break the categories down beyond eating/transferring etc.

Yes but can they change my ratings ?

Directly, no it cannot. However anytime you submit medical evidence into your file be it positive or negative, if your case is reevaluated which is "common" it would be considerable as evidence.

Moreso if new evidence is submitted that would constitute an increase, you could use it as evidence towards that. I.E. you were approved and later went for unemployability rating.

VA caregiver program will not effect rating, no medical evidence is needed for the program just a evaluation from your doctor which is nothing but a form breaking down what assistance is needed

SCADDL is only as strict as the doc evaluating you. I was denied SCADDL on AD but approveD VA caregiver when i got out

Also your P&T, and IU on top of that so your ratings are not changing anytime in the near future

Combat Eng is right about SCAADL only being as strict as the doc doing the screening. Otherwise it is pretty much the same program without the training requirement of the caregiver. If you qualify for SCAADL I've heard that rolling it to VA Caregiver is pretty seamless. SCAADL continues for 90 days I believe after retirement/ separation, and your MSC should have your caregiver stuff already submitted. The caregiver can do the required VA training while you are still active.

Well I made the Appt for the 3rd of feb. the Doc is my wifes PCM, so he knows "us" well, however he has only treated me twice I think. I really do not know how to go in there except, with my Wife and a list of things she does for me. I like that vagueness gives room for interpretation, but I hate that a doctor that has no clue about me gets to decide. If my PCM who just retired in NOV. was still here, it wouldnt be a problem, except A. she was a NP, and B. she's gone lol. My records should stand for themself, but I am not counting on him reviewing them or anything before the appt.

Good deal and congratulations! :)

Hmm, I am definitely interested in how your VA caregiver program appointment transpires for sure!

Upon military disability retirement, I shall proceed with the submission of my application for acceptance into the VA caregiver program. As such, I shall also elect my wife as the VA caregiver for sure!

Indeed, a totally agreement with you in reference to having an unknown DoVA medical clinician making a life changing decision for acceptance or not into the VA caregiver program.

To that extent, it's just my luck that I shall get another idiot DoVA medical clinician albeit I am hoping not; we shall definitely see!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

OK, thanks; sorry for my misinterpretation...it's those damn medical conditions with its supporting prescription medication!

Nonetheless, I truly hope you are approved for SCAADL very soon after your forthcoming appointment! ;)

The doc will need to review your records at least to give medical support to the scoring he gives. It's a point based system to determine the level of payment. He will then need to basically write up a mini narsum to go with the form explaining his findings on how your condition effects your ADLs and how your wife gives support for those ADLs. It's a lot of % based stuff, like... Your wife helps you bath or shower 50 or 75% of the time. Those % are worth points that get added up in the end to decide the level of SCAADL you are approved for. Hopefully the doc is understanding, not only of the form and how to fill it out, but also to your situation. And remember, assistance on ADLs can be physical or verbal.
