VA Finalization

@TRiffying any updates or movement on your VA case?

I've still got nothing over here.

Everything updated on the app on Friday. However, it appears my pay is all messed up and I wont actually get my full VA pay until September 1st. Frustrating its taken so long and the pay still wont be what it should be until then. I mean, not like I have bills to pay ya know.........

@TRiffying pay is all messed up as in dependents aren't calculated into the payment amount or you are being paid at the 100% rate?

Man, why can people not just do their jobs correctly? I guess that's just asking too much these days...

Its all messed up in that I wont be receiving the full amount in my pocket until september. I will get my DoD retirement pay (minus taxes) and then just a portion of my VA pay until then because apparently VA sends out monthly payments aroudn the 15th of the month to be deposited on the first of each month. Since they took so long to get my things straightened out the payment was not sent.

Hope everything hashes out. Wanted to ask if your VA effective date was the day after your retirement date or May 29th for you. Also wondering about the specifics of their screw up.

I'm retiring on the 30th and I'm presuming I'll get a decision in August or September, but I'm slightly worried about whether or not I'll get backpaid.

For perspective @thanks4urhelp, I retired on June 29th and I haven't heard a word out of the VA concerning my ratings. HOWEVER, they will be sure to call you about VA Solid Start and send you letters about the benefits that you can receive numerous times while taking their time finalizing your rating.

If you're retiring on the 30th, I definitely wouldn't expect a final rating in August. I would prepare now to not have that first full VA paycheck until 01 November.

I'd certainly be up shit creek if that's when timelines panned out. Seems @TRiffying got his rating finalized in a couple months from their discharge despite complications with final payout. I'm sure you're optimistic about an August decision with a September payment.

I managed to get my career plan changed with VR&E to afford me taking a full semester's worth of classes from August to December. If my CoE for the GI bill is corrected I should be able to receive the local MHA which is about 2.2K a month. That paired with unemployment, I'd be fine even if it did take until November or later. I'm just hoping I won't have to bank on that.

Got some info to share:

I was able to obtain an email address for the person assigned to my case with the VA. They had what appears to be their supervisor respond. In short, I was told that "a record number" of personnel were discharged through IDES in May and that the VA is running behind on these cases. While they should have been done within 30 days, it is now taking 45-55 days. That said, I was told to expect my case to finalize in 1-2 weeks.
Do you mind sharing how you got that email? I retired March 29, submitted my dd214 prior to that and confirmed the va has it, and am at decision pending. I’ve called the VA and vera but they both just tell me it’s been assigned to a rating team and ready to be rated. I’m not sure what the hold up is, I’ve already been rated. This is taking longer than my original rating during my medboard

You submitted the dd214 prior to your retirement? I would probably throw another one, a after official retirement one, into quicksubmit. I thought the dd214 prior to your official date was just to check for errors but I'm not very sure. I don't think it'll do much since you've already got confirmation that the VA sees it.

I was given my final copy prior to retirement, before that I got the draft to confirm no errors. I called the va after I got out to make sure they’ve got it and they confirmed so I don’t think that’s the holdup

I'm waiting for my ides/peb rating since 25 June. They slowed down a lot it seems recently.

I feel you! Ive been waiting since 30 May....

How many things did you claim?
38 I believe. It just closed today on VA app. I got first rep I talked to to email the findings to me!!! FINALLY!!!

@TRiffying Any news? Thankfully @usmc0612 had their claim populate recently. Solid Start never called me but Wounded Warrior called me and checked up on me.

My claim moved to preparation for notification today. I don't know if the VA is just working overtime or if it's because my case is flagged for hardship, but they've gone all the way to PFN in 8 days on my end.

@thanks4urhelp holy crap dude. PFN already?

Man, I really need that check to hit for 1 September because I'm running out of money quicker than I would like...

I looked at the qualifications for hardship and it said that unless you have overdue utility bills or an eviction notice to get bent...

NMCRS might not be so strict. They approved me for the COLA loan and it was noted that I would be facing eviction without that help. All the VA asked for is the loan documents and then flagged me for hardship.

Believe me when I say I'm worried about September bills too. Give the Society a call tomorrow and see if they can help.

Noted. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Man, you have no idea how happy I am to at least get some sort of an answer. I retired July 31st and everyone I knew that went through IDES their claims were finalized within a week of their retirement. Mine is still just sitting at “Complete.” VA can’t tell me nothing besides “Just keep checking because you’re at the final stage.” Trying to do the VR&E program but, go figure, can’t do it until your ratings are finalized so I’m living off savings right now.
