VA payment

At 120 days out of Seattle, no final rating yet.

Reply from my IRIS request:

Currently claims at the Seattle Regional Office (RO) are taking about 11 months to complete. Please understand that these timeframes are only averages, and that your claim may take longer based upon the specifics of your claim and VA’s pending workload.
There is one additional phase: Notification Phase.

We apologize for the length of time it is taking to make a decision on your claim; however, we are currently experiencing a backlog of claims. The decision phase can sometimes be a lengthy process because we want to make sure every claim has a thorough review, as well as a fair and accurate decision.

Wow! And, I am still awaiting DoVA ratings...:(

Best Wishes!

Do you get back pay from va? If so that's a nice chunk of change!!!

I was told I will receive back pay for my VA rating and I was retired. But that is because the VA amount is larger than my retirement amount. So I should be back paid the difference. Hopefully all the waiting is worth it as a forced savings account Sciotic!

Guess what meant to say yes depending on the percent you get from both, my case I do, 75% army, 100% VA, and hopefully CRSC. If you get more in army and less in VA then you won't, maybe some moe y back in taxes you spent while you waited to be final

Thats so true! I have to wait to file my CRSC until after my rating. Do you understand the way they calculate it? I read the guidance, but still don't see how they have the numbers that they do in the examples. I am 60% Dod, and most likely 100% VA.

I retire the 18th

Will I recieve my first retirement check 1st of may or will I have till the following month

Also is VA back pay the offset of your retirement pay when they finalize my ratings?

I was told it will be the following month after the 27th of your retire date. So engineer you will get your first check on june1st.

I agree with the others, 1 June for your DoD check

Yes. Your first DoD check (or maybe even two) will be for the full amount of your DoD retirement (no offset) because it takes 2 months or more for the VA to finalize the ratings- then the VA offset will kick in for the duration.

I had caught about unemployment be very careful if you are working on getting Social Security Disability getting on unemployment can screw you out of winning SSDI since most states report unemployment as a legal clause of declaring you consent to being able to gain full employment and SSDI court judge will take that as you can do gainfully employment

Not sure about that two months for the VA lol

True, the VA sure can be slow to finalize. Just going off of my experience- mine took about 2 months. Many sm's will fall into the "or more" category I added to the two month number.;)

Additional SSA SSDI information:

SSA has a trial work period which allows the SSDI awardee to test their ability to work for at least nine months without losing benefits. As long as the SSDI awardee remains disabled, they can get full Social Security disability benefits during those nine months no matter how much they earn.

After the nine-month trial work period, the SSA will still provide a safety net that allows the SSDI awardee to work another three years risk free. During those three years, the SSDI awardee can work and still receive benefits for any month in which their earnings do not exceed these limits:

1. $1,690.00 for blind individuals; or

2. $1,010.00 a month if SSDI awardee is not blind.

Thus, possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer.

Best Wishes!

An update, and some background info that may help others out there:

My DES claim closed 4/13/2013

I went through the entire DES (Pilot Program) and received proposed ratings in November 2010 - 40%DOD/80%VA

Put in and accepted for COAD in Dec 2010.

Had to do the whole MEB/PEB/VA thing again in 2012 as I approached 20 year retirement (ratings were over 6 months old).

Received proposed ratings again in August 2012 - 50%DOD/80%VA

Retired on 11/30/2012

DES Claim closed on 4/13/2013; no AB8

New Claim opened on 4/13/2012 which was from my retirement physical at Fort Rucker in August 2012. I was not pushing for another claim, I just told the doctor about my DES stuff and away they went.

Claim closed on 4/17/2013; AB8 indicates 80% so 50%DOD/80%VA final rating.

I will update this board when I receive first payment, and again when backpay shows up. If you have 20 year retirement, and receive CRDP, you will get backpay from Comp effective date.

Hope this info helps someone out there. Good luck folks, and don't give up - it looks like Seattle is back up and running again.
