Ok so i separated from the AF under TDRL end of Sep 2012 with AF rating of 70% and received proposded 90% from the VA. I was separated uder the IDES program. Since then I have started to see the VA for the service connected stuff but still waiting on a VA award letter ebenies keeps showing new evidence blah blah so who knows. I am currently receiving my DFAS TDRL pay which is great cause neither me or my wife can get jobs here in vegas right now. Anyway my ? is 1. how likly will my proposed rating change from 90 to something lower 2. what happens with pay once VA awards me since i have been recieving DFAS and VA will be higher amount. and 3. off subject but after i separted the VA has diagnosed me with TBI what would i need to do to get that rated in. in advance thanks to all those who view and/or reply with your comments.

As far as lowering your ratings, it's doubtful. Mine went up by 10% and I have not heard of anybody getting lower ratings than what the proposed ratings are. I am sure it could happen, but probably not.

With your pay, you will continue to get your TDRL retirement until your ratings are final. Once the VA finishes, you will see your status change on Ebenefits and then a couple days after that, you get a direct deposit for the back pay that the VA owes you. Finally, after the next full month, you will start to get VA pay. If it's more than your military pay, it will cancel out your DOD check. If not, you get the offset from DOD.

It sounds like your TBI may be combat related? As soon as you get your final VA ratings, get your CRSC packet together and send it off. Everything they find that was combat related will be used to determine your CRSC benefit. That can end up being a good chunk of your DOD retirement coming back to you. I sent mine off three weeks ago and am waiting for the decision on my case, which should take about 45 days according to the notice they sent me. Again, you will get retroactive pay for the CRSC if approved.

Thanks ranger2992 for your input very insightful. Yes the TBI is combat related the VA OIF/OEF social worker got me set up since i answered positive on her questionair since then its been appt after appt. Dont get me wrong im glad for the care but at 27yrs old im tired of hospitals and doctors.lol also with the pay issue will the VA deduct what i have received from DFAS and cut me a check for the remaider of the back pay since you cannot receive both unless its CRSC or similar?

Your exactly right. The VA is going to calculate the difference for your back pay. For example:

DOD retirement-$1500 (dod already paid you this monthly)
VA Benefit- $2500 (the VA benefit is higher and is what you would have been paid)
Difference- $1000 (since the VA was more per month, this is the amount the VA pays)
$1000 x months since discharge = Retroactive pay

In my case it wasn't much, but with a higher VA rating like yours you may get a good chunk of change. Then like I said, you will file your CRSC paperwork and may get a much larger retroactive pay depending on the outcome.
