VA Repayment

I know this has been asked before but I wanted to ask specific to my situation to get the best answer. I was rated at 0% by the DOD for my unfitting condition, 0% by the VA for the same unfitting condition and rated 20% by the VA for my claimed condition. It was combat related as it was a training accident with a gun, however it was not in a combat zone. It was V1-yes, V3-yes, V4-no. So I will be receiving severance pay. So, will my severance be tax free and will I have to repay the VA since my unfitting condition was rated at 0% by both the DOD and VA, and just my claimed condition was rated for compensation? Thanks in advance

Yes, your severance will be tax free. In addition, you will not be subject to recuperation of the severance pay before receiving VA pay.

When you do your briefing with your PEBLO, they should explain it. If not, your exit interview with the VA MSC rep will mention. Always ask, always ask them to point out where it says it in the paperwork.

Thank you for the help. So was I correct in that since that I am only going to receive compensation for my claimed condition is why Im not subject to repayment?

I'm in the same situation. My PEBLO told me they will not recoup because the VA isn't paying you for that condition, ( the one that placed you in the whole process ). Now if once you get out & try to appeal the VA for a rating for that condition then it's possible they can recoup. But as of now, you will get severance & disability pay.
