VASDR Question

I was wondering if the Army/VA must use the ratings that are in the VASDR or do they have any room to give their own percentage recommendations. For example, in my case I have epilepsy and I checked in the VASDR and it would appear that I should be entitled to an 80% disability rating due to the frequency of my seizures. However, I wanted to know if the doctors for could give me a lower rating for some arbitrary reason or are they required to use the ratings in the VASDR? Thanks, Kevin H.

Yes, the VASRD is essentially the rating standard. However, remember, the PEB only considers ratings for unfitting conditions. I assume your epilepsy prevents you from doing your job, so, hopefully, there will be no issue getting it rated by PEB.

If you have trouble with the lingo and how to calculate, look up the e-CFR. It goes pretty barney level on some things.

The military must apply the VASRD. Under the IDES system, the VA provides the rating for conditions- and, thus, must necessarily use the VASRD.
